Project Overview
Calluna Graphix is a ‘sustainable exhibition design company’. The business was expanded during the pandemic to include ‘Calluna upcycling’ and offers upcycling to other businesses that have fabric waste, such as banners, graphic materials, tent chairs etc. These waste fabrics get recycled into handbags and tote bags that are then sold to customers.
Project Objectives
In order to demonstrate the level of resources being saved, the client wanted a digital ‘counter’ displayed on their website which calculated and showed the amount of carbon savings being made as a result of upcycling. Businesses would be able to clearly see the benefits of recycling waste materials and this would then, hopefully, encourage other businesses to do the same. The calculation in this particular ‘counter’ would include the amount of carbon and water saved due to upcycling fabric.
Project Solutions
The Digital Solutions project team, worked out the amounts of carbon and water saved by diverting fabric from landfill and created a functional worksheet that automatically does the calculations, it can display savings in the form of either M2 of material or Kg weight. Research, also carried out by the team, identified ways for this information to then be automatically updated on the website.
The Counter is now live on Calluna Graphix’s website. It is easy for the client to use and is an excellent tool promoting the benefits of upcycling to other businesses, and encourages the donation of waste materials.
