Educational Technology has been instrumental in broadening my understanding of how digital tools can transform teaching and learning. As a prospective primary school teacher specializing in Mathematics and Science, I have developed a stronger appreciation for how technology can enhance instruction, promote engagement, and foster independent learning among students. One of the most impactful aspects of this course was learning how to design and implement digital tools that cater to diverse learners. I created interactive PowerPoint presentations that incorporated animations, hyperlinks, and audio/video elements making content delivery more dynamic and accessible. I also designed and recorded photo-stories, which helped me explore storytelling through multimedia, a skill I can use to help students build literacy and creativity through visual expression.
Additionally, I gained practical experience using digital assessment tools such as Google Forms and Quizziz, which allow for real-time feedback, data collection, and student progress tracking. These tools support formative and summative assessment strategies that align with student-centered learning approaches. A major takeaway from the course was my exposure to the ASSURE Model of lesson planning. This model emphasized the importance of analyzing learner characteristics, selecting appropriate media and materials, and evaluating student outcomes. It taught me how to strategically integrate technology in lesson planning to support specific learning objectives.
Throughout the course, I also became more proficient in using Google Classroom to organize class content, distribute assignments, and facilitate communication between teacher and students. Setting up a Google Classroom with sample students helped me simulate a real-life digital learning environment, including posting assignments, grading submissions, and adding multimedia resources for easier access to learning materials.
These experiences align closely with the ISTE Standards for Educators, including:
Learner (Standard 1): Continuously exploring new tools and strategies to improve instructional practices.
Designer (Standard 5): Creating personalized and engaging learning experiences using digital tools.
Facilitator (Standard 6): Supporting student learning through the meaningful use of technology.
Analyst (Standard 7): Using digital tools to evaluate student performance and adjust instruction accordingly.
Overall, this course has equipped me with the knowledge and confidence to use technology not just as an add-on, but as a fundamental part of effective teaching and learning. I am now better prepared to create digital learning environments that support collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking in the 21st-century classroom.
