🔍 Problem Overview
A client’s website was set up with GA4 tracking using Google Tag Manager (GTM) and a Server-Side Container.
However, despite correct event firing on the browser side, no data was reaching GA4 from the server container.
🏅🔥 Solution⭕
The problem was identified in the GA4 Configuration Tag.
The Server Container URL field was incorrect / missing
Because of this:
Requests were sent to the browser endpoint
But never forwarded to the server container
As a result, server-side data collection completely failed
In short:
GA4 was working on the surface, but server-side tracking was broken.
🧪 Symptoms Observed⭕
GA4 DebugView showed inconsistent or missing events
Server container showed no incoming requests
Ads conversions were not reliable
Client devices sometimes showed data, sometimes not
🛠️ Solution Implemented
Opened Google Tag Manager → GA4 Configuration Tag
Correctly added the Server Container URL
(Example format: https://gtm.yourdomain.com)
Verified:
Server container was published
Client container was linked correctly
Tested using:
GA4 DebugView
GTM Preview mode
