People have always told stories about the Moon.
We have given it personality, prayed to it and used new technologies to understand it.
It has inspired, fascinated, and intrigued us since the beginning of time.
Kiwi Nuggets are short Aotearoa New Zealand texts especially developed for independent learning – remotely, as in-class extension, or for homework.

One of these stories, or pūrākau, is Rona and the Moon. Check out the videos and the beautiful waiata to hear Rona's story.
What would you say to the moon if you had a chance ?
Take a piece of paper and divide it into 4 squares
Can you write or draw what you would say to this Atua in one of the squares
Watch or listen as Lara retells the pūrakau Rona and the Moon
As she tells it you could do some little pieces of art work to tell the story in your own way in another of your squares
Follow the story and do the fun activities in the Kiwi Nuggets slides on the side. Start by opening it and making a copy of the slides.
If you could whisper a message to the Moon, what would it be..?
Thank you to Emma and Imogen Ragg for the lovely image.
Written and sung by Kath Bee and Suzy Cato; we hope this song makes you feel just as happy as we do, when you hear it!
