Each department utilizes software specific to its discipline. Staff and monitors are not guaranteed to be familiar with department-specific or process-specific software.
Staff and monitors are trained only on the software required to operate and maintain lab equipment. They are not responsible for file setup or problem-solving within departmental software platforms.
Faculty are responsible for instructing students on how to properly create and prepare files within their department’s designated software.
Staff and Monitor Limitations
Staff and monitors ARE trained in equipment-operating software, including Job Control, PE Design Next, Cura, VCarve, and Illustrator, as well as machine troubleshooting and processing workflows.
They can assist with file processing once a file is properly prepared, but they cannot assist with creating or setting up files within department-specific software.
If you have questions about the policy regarding training your students, please see the training section of Moore's Studio Handbook.
If faculty have questions regarding lab access, equipment training, or project planning, please contact Ashley York (ayork@moore.edu) BEFORE your course begins.
If you intend to assign a project that requires the use of the Fab Lab, it is your responsibility to coordinate this in advance. All training sessions, access requests, and project planning must be arranged BEFORE lab use.
Limited staffing limits last-minute requests for class training or access, and often cannot be accommodated.
