Edward Eustace is an MA Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching student at King's College London and one of the editors of the King's Digital ELT SIG web portal. Watch his talk about reviewing lexical collocations in English as the lingua franca.
English is the world’s unparalleled auxiliary language, yet still envisioned as an elite achievement. English as a lingua franca (ELF) accommodates learners’ interlanguage thereby making permutations intelligible. Nevertheless, pedagogic acceptance has proven problematic, especially regarding lexical collocations. This talk reviews ELF’s effect on Lexicography and how educators can incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies with corpora to facilitate communicative competence for their learners to inculcate an accelerated dissemination of the last lingua franca.
