Dear Selection Committee,
It is my pleasure to recommend this student, who I have worked with in the FBLA Chapter and Computer Science Department. This student has demonstrated tremendous effort and growth throughout this year and brought great energy to FBLA. The student has that combination of a positive attitude and the belief that they can always improve, that is rare in a high school student, but so essential to the learning process. I am confident that this student will continue to display the same commitment and diligence in everything he or she does. I highly recommend this student for the America Award under Future Business Leaders of America.
This student would not describe themself as a natural leader. This student has told me on several occasions that being a part of this CTSO has helped them to become a leader and better student within high school. This student did, in fact, struggle to comprehend the necessary traits and characteristics to being an excellent leader and mentor for his or her peers at the beginning of the year, but their response to this is what really struck me. Where so many others have given up, this student took on this as a welcome challenge. The student stayed after school for extra help, got extra guidance from peers, and asked questions in and out of the classroom. Due to all their hard work, this student not only raised the bar of becoming a leader but has also inspired some of their FBLA peers to stay after for extra help, as well. This student truly demonstrated a growth mindset, and the student has inspired peers to adopt that valuable perspective, too. This student helped contribute to our FBLA environment as one where all students can feel supported and able to ask questions.
This student’s strong belief in their ability to acquire new skills and improve through practice was likely shaped by years participating in other organizations within schools. While the student initially described themself as not a leader, this student reaped the benefits of him tremendous effort and found a way to make the title come alive for them in a way that was personally invested in. As a mentor, it is incredibly fulfilling to witness a student make this kind of academic and personal progress.
This student is a trustworthy, reliable, good-humored student and friend who supports others in and out of school. This student is a pleasure to have in FBLA and the Computer Science department, and the positive attitude and belief in themself, even in the face of difficulty, is an immensely admirable asset. I am confident that the student will continue to demonstrate the same diligence, perseverance, and optimism that they showed myself and their peers. I highly recommend this student for the America Award with FBLA. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions at shaneal.robertson@cobbk12.org.
Sincerely,
