Build or Simulate Simple Electronic Circuits
Here, you can learn what Electronics is about and how to build or simulate a simple electronic circuit using commonly available electronic components.
Electronics is the study of how to control the flow of electrons. It deals with circuits made up of components that control the flow of electricity. Electronics is a part of physics and electrical engineering.
Electronics is widely used in information processing, telecommunication, and signal processing fields. More than ever before, innovation is being driven by electronics and digital technologies today. As such, it is imperative for budding innovators to have a strong foundation in electronics and digital technologies in order to bring their innovations to reality.
Watch a few videos from the below series of videos on Electronics for beginners.
Electronic components are built using semi-conducting materials such as Silicon and Germanium. Electronic components control the flow of electrical currents for the purpose of information processing and system control. Prominent examples of electronic components include transistors and diodes. Electronic components are usually small and can be grouped together into packages called integrated circuits. Light-emitting diodes, resistors, potentiometers, capacitors, inductors, transistors are examples of electronic components.
An electronic circuit is made up of one or more electronic components, such as resistors, transistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes, integrated circuits, etc. connected by conductive wires or traces through which electric current can flow. Electronic circuits are designed to perform a specific function or a useful job such as amplify a signal, convert alternating current to direct current, perform switching function, monitoring an environment, actuating mechanical or electrical equipment & machines, raising alarms, etc. Electronic circuits are being increasingly embedded in a variety of physical objects, devices, appliances, machines and vehicles around us. So, use of Electronic circuits has become ubiquitous and widespread in use today.
Personal appliances (such as smartphones, mobile devices, fitness devices, etc.), home appliances (such as TV, washing machine, dish washer, music player, etc.), business equipment (such as computers, printers, fax machines, video conferencing equipment, security cameras, etc.) and industrial machines (drillers, mixers, grinders, robots, etc.), and vehicles (cars, buses, trains and airplanes) built using electronic components and circuits are broadly referred to as electronic devices or electronic products.
To build electronic circuits of your own, you need access to some of the electronic components we discussed earlier. All the above electronic components are available in your ATL. In case you wish to buy them for your personal use, you can do so from Amazon, an online eCommerce portal.
If you do not have electronic components, worry not. You can use TinkerCAD Circuits, an online tool to simulate electronic circuits without using any physical electronic components. To know more about TinkerCAD Circuits, click here. You can just drag-n-drop various electronic components shown in the tool, and connect them with each other to form a virtual circuit. You can then click "Start Simulation" to simulate the circuit and observe the output.
You have two options:
Option 1: If you have physical electronic components with you, build any one electronic circuit from among the many electronic circuits shown in the slide deck shown below-left and demonstrate its working.
Option 2: If you don't have physical electronic components with you, create a simulated electronic circuit by referring to the slide deck shown below-right and demonstrate its working.
If you have built an electronic circuit using physical electronic resources:
Create a video demo of your Electronic Circuit.
Upload the demo as a "video" as part of the assignment submission.
If you have created a simulated electronic circuit:
Download and install Screen Recorder Pro tool on your Windows 10 computer.
Start recording your computer's screen using Screen Recorder Pro tool.
Minimize the Screen Recorder Pro tool window so that it is not visible.
Run the simulation of the electronic circuit built using TinkerCAD Circuits on your computer. Wait till it finishes.
Open Screen Recorder Pro window and stop recording your computer's screen.
Locate the .MP4 video file created by Screen Recorder Pro tool.
Upload the screen-recorded video (,MP4 file) of your simulation as a "video" while submitting your assignment.
