X1Lab Wooden Sign.
For this project I wanted to create a sign out of plywood to hang out of my workshop. I decided to go with a simpler design then I originally wanted, but the resolution I would need to make the other design work was not possible with my scale and material. So instead I decided to reuse an old nickname. X1lab, which stands for experimental lab 1 which was the name of my first ever soldering/pcb workshop when I lived In chicago. I started by making my first design in adobe illustrator. I sketched it then combined it into one object. then I exported my final project as a .dxf file so it could be imported in autodesk. In autodesk I extruded my initial design and also created a sketch to represent my stock, A 3ftx3ft ⅛’ thick plywood. Then I created 3 tool paths to tell the router how to mill the stock without splintering the wood.
if I did this project again I would probably make a symentrical design that I could add color to. I don't dislike, but I don't like the plain plywood look.
I don't think I could improve much on the sign besides painting it.
the cad design process went by extremely quickly for me and the tool paths worked perfectly in the end.
