Equitable Digital Access

What is it?

Why is it important?

In the past, schools did not have as much access to technology as most schools do today. Most schools have up-to-date technology or the school allows students to bring their own device from home. No matter which option the school chooses, they must ensure that all students have access to some sort of technology no matter race, gender, or socio-economic status. How do we ensure that all students have equitable digital access? Many schools chose to provide students with technology through funding. Teachers, principals, and libraries can also apply for grants that help pay for technology for the school. One website to help with funding of technology is https://www.donorschoose.org/. This website allows any school official to set up an account in hopes people from all over the country contribute to equitable digital access by donating to various causes.

There are many teachers who do not know the importance of equitable digital access. It is very important for teachers to be informed about equitable digital access because at some point in their careers, they will have a student that comes from a low-income family that may not have access to technology at home.
