The issue we're running into is that the Digital Check CX30 and TS240 scanners are, basically, dumb clients. There is no scanner side image processing. A RAW data scan is sent which includes the check image and all associated MICR information. This file can be upwards of 20MB, and some of our sites only have 2-5mb of bandwidth. The 5-10 second delay between scanning and receiving the image has been deemed unacceptable.

We are attempting to implement USB check scanners in our VDI environment, and having significant issues. I was hoping anyone that has implemented this in an environment like ours may have some helpful advice.

All end users connect to our Horizon View environment through a Wyse P25 zero client. They log into a Windows 10 v 1803 desktop that has View Agent v. 7.8 installed (with scanner redirection and USB redirection enabled). We are testing three different vendor models of USB check scanners (Digital Check, Panini, Burroughs). For each check scanner, we are getting different results. Sometimes the scanners will work successfully, some times they receive errors, sometimes not at all.

Not sure if you got this resolved or not, but we use Burroughs check scanners in VDI via USB redirection on HP Thin Clients. In order to get this to work, we had to install the drivers for the scanner into the Gold Pattern/Image (whatever you refer to the master image as) and connect the device via host USB. After that, we pushed the image, and we were able to connect the scanner via the redirect and scan away.

We use check scanners with our VDI, but we have full desktops (Mac/PC) client machines, not thin clients. I found that the scanner redirection feature did nothing for us, because it's not technically a scanner. The Horizon client just sees it as a regular USB device, so after removing the scanner redirection driver I was able to get it working with USB redirection. That might work for you because the USB redirection won't rename the device as "VMware Scanner"

Organizations which receive remittance items whose size can be as long as 8 1/2 x 14 can utilize the Smartsource Adaptive scanner. The scanner supports full page document scanning but is, in fact a check scanner with the ability to extract MICR data in bitonal and grayscale. More details can be found here:

In addition to driver installation, end-users using the Check Scanning App must also download and install Ranger Remote, a windows service which allows browsers to communicate with check scanning hardware. Both the check scanning drivers and Ranger Remote are, in many cases, the same drivers shipped by the manufacturers themselves. As such, drivers and services adhere to the highest security protocols.

As a final step in the end-user installation process, the user must unlock the Ranger driver. Without unlocking the Ranger driver, Ranger Remote cannot be used as a communication method between the scanner and browser. To unlock the Ranger driver, please follow these steps.

Please note that if installing the check scanning drivers on a PC which is currently being utilized for scanning with other third party solutions (i.e. bank-based scanning), Check21.com cannot guarantee that such solution will continue to function.

The MJ-1000 is designed specifically for smaller banks, branches, community banks, and credit unions with lower volume of checks being processed. If your business only processes a few checks per week, the MJ-1000 Single Bin Jogger may be the perfect scanner for you.

Anyone who uses automatic check scanners, readers and/or sorters, MICR encoders and endorsers with up to 250 checks per load, such as the Canon CR-180 document imaging system, Digital Check TellerScan family or Unisys MyVision X check scanners, should consider purchasing the MJ-1000.

The Digital Check TellerScan TS240 batch-fed check scanner is the best bank check scanning solution for teller capture and branch capture needs. This corporate check scanning solution is powerful enough to handle the highest volume scanning at the branch back counter while maintaining the small footprint required at the teller window. The TellerScan TS240 is also a suitable option for businesses with large-scale remote deposit capture and document scanning needs.

A few months ago the Windows 10 Anniversary Update came through the pipes and without having a restore point or having had automatic updates turned off, our small organization was hit with a BIG unseen problem: our desktop deposit scanners stopped working properly. They would not connect to the online banking service upon query, and so we were unable to deposit checks.

Wells Fargo had a solution that next week, which turned the scanner driver into a service and allowed us to deposit checks, however it has critical issues. We have two Panini scanners, same model different year: the oldest one will not connect to the online deposit service after a deposit but can be made to work again by restarting the service (with admin rights), the newest one will not connect to the online deposit service after a deposit but can be made to work again by restarting thecomputer (restarting the service does nothing). These are hardly band-aids on the problem.

I assume these scanners are USB. Is the elder a My VisionX? I know for sure that Fiserv drivers definitely don't work with scanners that old - on the street, it's hit and miss, but officially totally unsupported.

The bank does supply the drivers for connecting the scanner to their online services, but since the Windows 10 Anniversary update the bank has had problems with these scanners across the board. I don't know if buying a new scanner is what the company really wants to do but I will definitely put that idea forward.

I'm currently struggling with this. Recently updated our PCs to Win10 1607 and since then, Wellsfargo panini scanner stopped working. I found the following thread Opens a new window in MS forums from September last year saying the scanner driver doesn't work on 1607. Did you find a solution/workaround to make it work? or did you have to rollback to 1511?

Just to add to this thread. We have been fighting the same issues with several Panini scanners with Chase bank. I learned two important things from a good (finally) support person at Chase. All the drivers for the Panini's are 16 or 32 bit drivers. The problems stem from some incompatibilities with 64 bit systems that were never addressed. I was asked "do you have any 32 bit Win 7 boxes around". We did, so we set one up off domain, gave the user local admin rights and have not had an issue since. Each Panini scanning system is customized by the bank and they are resistant to going in and fixing issues. 2351a5e196
