Internships comprise 1-6 academic credits and in most cases are 3 credits.
No more than 6 credits shall be applied to graduation requirements or toward fulfillment of requirements for the major.
At least 135 hours field experience are required for 3 academic credits. Additional credits may be assigned on a 40 hours per credit basis. Hours in addition to the minimum may be undertaken without the assignment of additional academic credit.
Hours worked is not the primary basis for determining academic credit-worthiness. Although additional work hours are required for additional credit, academic credit hours and grade are awarded primarily on the basis of the academic work done in connection with the student's project.
Students should provide a weekly report (via blog, email, or other easily documented means) to the internship supervisor of work accomplished at the internship that week. Reports should note any progress in projects assigned, new tasks undertaken, difficulty, workplace issues, etc.
Students write a final paper or final blog post that reflects on the work responsibilities of the internship and what the student learned from the internship experience. The report should apply concepts from DIGIT course work to experiences and observations during the internship. The report (either as a paper or blog post) is due on the last day of classes for the internship semester.
The internship supervisor submits a midterm and a final evaluation form reviewing the student's work to the internship coordinator through this website. These are due the midterm evaluation week and finals week of a given semester.
Grading must be on the normal scale of A - F. Pass/fail cannot be used. Students must register for academic credit in the semester during which the internship is performed.
