Chapter 12: The Mermaid, The Wolf, and The Dinosaur

The city on Aqualia that the Digidestined and Digimon were fighting in was getting absolutely demolished by all the fighting. The Digidestined's Digimon were exhausted. They were up against hundreds of Digimon and the more they deleted, the more that came towards them. Gallantmon huffed and puffed while supporting himself with his lance as it was stuck in the ground. "We….can't….go…..on like this. We need our army." Gallantmon said, the voices of Mario and Guilmon speaking in unison. As soon as he spoke, a multitude of portals opened up and various Digimon came through. Each one was wearing a large scarf with a Digivice symbol imprinted on it. Riding on 5 Ghryphonmon were Gennai, Jijimon, Krasus, Seraphimon, and Cherubimon. "Sorry we're late." Gennai said. "I know it took a while, but it's not exactly like this showdown is on time. It's early! We can't just gather everyone at the drop of a hat." Jijimon explained.

Gallantmon looked over to the army. He felt so relieved. Now, maybe they'd have a fighting chance. Soon hundreds, thousands of Digimon of all species and levels came through the portals. One portal opened up and a thousand different Greymon species Digimon came through. There were Greymon, Blue Greymon, MetalGreymon of both the vaccine and virus variety, GeoGreymon, etc. and it was being led by a VictoryGreymon. Another portal opened up to show a variety of different Digimon from the Deep Savers field being led by a Plesiomon. Samantha and her MetalSeadramon were also in this group. Yet another opened to show lots of bird Digimon led by a Phoenixmon. Another portal opened to reveal various kinds of insect Digimon led by a HerculesKabuterimon. Another portal opened to reveal various beast and reptile Digimon led by a ZeedGarurumon. Gallantmon jumped up and stood in front of their own army. The Digivice print scarves were so that they could identify their ally Digimon from enemy Digimon. This was especially important if the ally and enemy had Digimon of the same species. You didn't want to shoot down a Birdramon on your side, after all. Gennai looked over to Jijimon. "Is that all of them?" He asked. "You wanted more?" Jijimon responded. Gallantmon raised his hand and his lance flew into his hand. "Digidestined!" Gallantmon screamed as he caught his lance. "Let's go digital." He said in a soft tone. A Vikemon nearby gave out a war cry. The two armies ran at each other and began fighting.

"Was that whole scene one large reference? Ah, who cares? The cavalry's here!" MegaGargomon said.

Back near the beach, Evander, Jessica, and Kinandon looked up at Omnimon fighting AncientMermaidmon. "Grey Sword!" Omnimon shouted as he swung his sword at AncientMermaidmon. AncientMermaidmon parried. Omnimon's armor was not as white and pristine as it was when he first digivolved. He had taken quite a beating from AncientMermaidmon. AncientMermaidmon slapped Omnimon back with her tail before letting out another cry of pain. AncientMermaidmon created a plethora of crystalized liquid shards in the air and sent them towards Omnimon like a machine gun. Omnimon deflected some with his Grey Sword, and dodged others. AncientMermaidmon let out another scream before creating a big pillar of water and freezing it solid. It resembled a massive pillar. Such a gargantuan pillar of ice would surely be extremely heavy, but AncientMermaidmon held it with little to no effort. She swung the big pillar at Omnimon. Omnimon had no time to dodge! WHAM! He got sent flying out 100 yards out to sea. AncientMermaidmon then teleported behind Omnimon, right in the direction his body was herdling. WHAM! AncientMermaidmon struck Omnimon again! Omnimon's body started flying back towards the shore. AncientMermaidmon then teleported beneath Omnimon. WHAM! She hit Omnimon with the massive ice pillar yet again and sent his body flying upwards. AncientMermaidmon teleported to where her body was above Omnimon's. "Omnimon!" Evander and Jessica cried out. WHAM! AncientMermaidmon hit Omnimon again, sending him herdling down towards the ocean waters. Omnimon feel face down. His armor was severely cracked in multiple places.

Omnimon moaned. He tried to get back up on his feet, but he was so weak that even sitting up took a lot of effort. "She's….so…..powerful!" Omnimon said through the pain. Jessica gripped the trident she was holding. "Omnimon can't do this alone." She said before flying out towards AncientMermaidmon. Jessica swung her trident towards AncientMermaidmon! Clang! AncientMermaidmon parried her attack! Jessica's facial expression conveyed that she had just noticed something. "I can sense them. I can sense aquatic Digimon nearby." Jessica said. AncientMermaidmon raised the hand that wasn't gripping the trident and opened her palm towards Jessica. She caused a spear of ice to shoot out of her hand. Jessica tried to dodge got hit in the arm instead. Jessica grunted in pain as she jumped back.

"Jessica! Oh no!" Evander exclaimed. He started running in the direction of his wife. He could see a sharp ice spear piercing her right arm, and wanted to help. He didn't know what he could do. He just knew that his wife was injured, and he desperately just wanted to do something, anything, for her. Even if it was just moral support. Jessica saw him running and snapped "No! Stay away! It's too dangerous!" Evander stopped right in his tracks. "But, Jessica…." Evander said. Jessica grabbed the ice spear with her left hand and yanked it out quickly. She grunted in pain. Blood poured down her right arm out of the hole the spear had caused. Jessica's arm wasn't the only thing covered in blood. Blood was running down the side of her face from open head wounds. Given the physical trauma she endured throughout her previous fight with Kinandon, she should have died multiple times already. She was definitely godlike. Jessica gave a quick chuckle. "This armor is way too revealing to be of much use. I'll have to be more careful." She said. She then shot off towards AncientMermaidmon's direction like a bullet, once again breaking the sound barrier. Jessica virtually headbutted AncientMermaidmon in the gut and they both out towards the sea. Jessica punched AncientMermaidmon in the face rapidly, over and over and over as the flew horizontally. It was reminiscent of BoxerInsectmon's Rapid Punches attack. She managed to punch AncientMermaidmon 300 times in 30 seconds. Jessica then grabbed AncientMermaidmon by the throat and started flying up into the air. She kept flying, not stopping. Then she did stop. She spun around holding AncientMermaidmon and when she let go, AncientMermaidmon was sent hurtling towards the shore of the Continent of Asioo! AncientMermaidmon crashed into the pavement of one of the roads in the city. She slid across the pavement leaving a long groove where she had slid. Her fall had been so forceful that she actually punctured concrete.

Evander looked in awe and wonder. "This is like a freakin' Dragon Ball fight!" He said. Jessica teleported and ended up in AncientMermaidmon's location. Jessica put her trident up to AncientMermaidmon's throat. "Katie. I know you're in there. I don't want to kill you, but….your very existence threatens this world. And…" Jessica was cut off…by AncientMermaidmon! "I'm already dead anyway." Jessica was surprised.

The Digidestined's Digimon and the army they were allied with didn't stop to take notice of the two mermaid titans clashing. They were too busy dealing with their own opponents. Jessica looked at her with compassion and nodded. "That's right, Katie. That's right." Jessica said, compassion filling her voice. AncientMermaidmon coughed a couple of times. "What are you waiting for? Hurry up and do it while I'm coherent!" She said. Jessica reared her trident back about to strike. She stopped when she saw that AncientMermaidmon had raised her hand and was sending out another solid ice spear to pierce her….right in the chest! Jessica looked as the ice spear headed towards her! From her own visual and mental perception, it was like the whole thing was occurring in slow motion! The ice spear punctured Jessica right through the chest! Her eyes widened and then…she vanished!

It was just her after image! Jessica had teleported just in the nick of time! She was floating behind AncientMermaidmon, behind a massive pile of concrete that AncientMermaidmon's fall had created. "Good thing the myths were right about Poseidon being able to teleport." Jessica said. She was breathing heavily. She knew that she came within a hair's breadth of being fatally wounded. AncientMermaidmon winced in pain. She winced even more intensely. Then she started grunting and screaming again. "Damn it! It hurts!" AncientMermaidmon said.

Jessica looked at AncientMermaidmon with sad eyes. Her heart was filled with compassion towards her. Jessica knew that inside this rampaging Digimon was just an innocent woman, a mermaid not unlike herself, well, except for the goddess of the sea aspect. "Katie's in pain." Jessica thought to herself. "She's suffering so much. I need to end this." She finished saying mentally. Jessica placed her hand down on the ground. It was her right hand, so it was covered in the blood from her previous puncture wound. "I have to concentrate. I have to cause an Earthquake that only affects AncientMermaidmon's location." Jessica said mentally. The ground started trembling. MegaGargomon was punching a Kuwagamon over and over until it reverted back into a DigiEgg. When the Earthquake started, MegaGargomon looked around. "An earthquake?" He said. MegaGargomon then roundhouse kicked a Devidramon into oblivion.

"Someone left the planet on vibrate, Zai." Syn said. Zai and Syn had taken cover away from the battlefield, since Syn was too injured to keep fighting or maintain any of her higher digivolved forms. Zai's eyebrows furrowed. "I wonder…is this a natural phenomenon or is this Jessica?" She said. Jessica was focusing on making the ground open up underneath AncientMermaidmon to swallow her. "Not enough. All I'm doing is causing mild tremors. I'll need to kick it up." She thought to herself. The ground began quaking more and more violently. Suddenly, a massive hole opened up beneath and swallowed the entire city, dragging in lots of Digimon from both the allied side and the enemy's side. "Oh no!" Jessica exclaimed. She took her hand off the ground and the quakes stopped.

Zai and Syn began falling backwards. They screamed as they fell. Fortunately, Zai's bat wings aren't just for show. Zai hugged Syn like a teddy bear and flew towards the beach, away from the gargantuan crater. "Holy fish paste, Batgirl!" Syn said in astonishment. Gallantmon and Ophanimon also flew to safety as did MegaGargomon and the Gryphonmon holding the Digital World Council members. ShineGreymon was hovering above the hole looking around to see if there was anyone he could help out of the hole. He looked over to see SaberLeomon jumping from one airborne rock to another trying to find his way out. He jabbed his claws into the crater wall. "Of all the ways I could go out, dying in a literal hole isn't going to be one of them." SaberLeomon said aloud. ShineGreymon flew over to SaberLeomon and grabbed him. "Hello friend, just hanging around?" ShineGreymon said. SaberLeomon took a sigh of relief. "ShineGreymon! Thank goodness!" He said. They then flew out of the hole.

Jessica looked behind her in horror at the fact that she had just destroyed an entire city in a matter of minutes. She started having another panic attack. "No! No! No! Please! God, no! Please tell me there weren't innocent people in that city!" She exclaimed. Unfortunately, the one part of the city not swallowed was the place AncientMermaidmon was lying. MegaGargomon landed beside her. "Jessica, don't think I'm trying to sweet talk you or anything, but you made the Earth move under my feet!" MegaGargomon joked. "You think this is funny!? I may have just killed thousands of people!" Jessica said. "I don't recall seeing any non-Digimon in the city. I'm pretty sure they all evacuated. Still…." MegaGargomon said. Gallantmon and Ophanimon then landed beside him. "Still, many of the Digimon who allied with us were swallowed up." Ophanimon said. Jessica looked horrified. She clasped her hand over her mouth. "Oh….God." She said before the images of her nightmare started flashing through her mind's eye again. "I thought….I thought I could control it! Those poor Digimon!" Jessica said in shock. Ophanimon put her hand on Jessica's shoulder. "Jessica. Those Digimon were ready to die. You don't join a war without being prepared for that." She said, the voice of Flora and Gatomon speaking in unison. "But not by my hand!" Jessica responded.

AncientMermaidmon had gotten back up. Her coherence was gone again. She was grunting loudly like a cavewoman. She teleported quickly to mere inches behind Jessica and began to strike her. Jessica was too in shock over what she had done. Her reflexes were slow. As the trident came towards her face, again, it was like the whole thing was occurring in slow motion. Jessica watched in terror. Suddenly, a sword cut through and parried AncientMermaidmon's trident! It was Omnimon's Grey Sword! "What's wrong, AncientMermaidmon? Don't want to play with me anymore?" He said. Omnimon used his Grey Sword to knock the trident out of AncientMermaidmon's hand. The trident swirled in the air before lying prongs down on the sand about 15 feet away. This last act of Omnimon caused his Grey Sword to completely break in half! Kinandon had left a crack in his sword when Omnimon parried him earlier, and the crack in the Grey Sword just got progressively worse as Omnimon kept using it. Omnimon raised his MetalGarurumon-Head arm and brought his cannon out. He pointed it in AncientMermaidmon's direction "Garuru…" Omnimon began. Before Omnimon could fire his attack, AncientMermaidmon teleported to a mere few inches in front of Omnimon. She uppercutted him with her right hook, sending Omnimon flying high into the air. AncientMermaidmon then teleported above Omnimon and used her mermaid tail to knock him down to the ground. Omnimon was already weakened. But he still attempted to get up. He aimed his arm that looked like MetalGarurumon's head in AncientMermaidmon's direction. "Garuru…Canno-" But again, before he could do anything, AncientMermaidmon upon him again. She had once again teleported mere inches in front of Omnimon's face! AncientMermaidmon began rapidly punching Omnimon's head. It was like what Jessica had done earlier. She delivered 800 punches in the span of two minutes! Her punches were so fast, that her arms and hands were just blurs. Omnimon grunted in pain. Jessica had a distressed look on her face. "Omnimon!" She yelled.

Jessica decided to forget about the hole she had opened up to try to swallow this thing. She bolted off towards AncientMermaidmon's direction, breaking the sound barrier. Jessica stopped on a dime behind AncientMermaidmon. She grabbed the mermaid Digimon's hair and threw her over her shoulder, slamming her down on the sand below. Jessica then threw her over her shoulder in the other direction, and slammed AncientMermaidmon on the ground once more. She did this several times before throwing AncientMermaidmon up in the air. Jessica created several small ice shards in front of her body. She then fired them at AncientMermaidmon. AncientMermaidmon was hit by every one of the crystals. She fell to the ground. AncientMermaidmon screamed louder. She turned in Jessica's direction and lunged at her at lightning speed. Omnimon got in the way and was hit instead. The torso part of his armor cracked and shattered, revealing a body covered in black cloth underneath. AncientMermaidmon grabbed her trident and began spinning it. "Great Maelstrom!" AncientMermaidmon called out. She generated a gigantic maelstrom that swallowed everything in water!

MegaGargomon grabbed Evander and flew up high. Gallantmon and SaberLeomon rode on ShineGreymon to avoid the attack. Zai had grabbed Syn again and flew up using the bat wings which protruded from her back. Ophanimon grabbed Rosemon and flew up. The only ones who couldn't escape the massive watery attack were Jessica and Omnimon. They were both dragged out to sea. Omnimon was frantic. He tried to swim upward to get to the surface, but there were two things hindering him; first, he was heavily armored and thus, he was anything but buoyant. Secondly, he had hardly any strength left. "I can't give up!" Omnimon thought to himself. "Everyone's counting on me! Especially Jessica!" Omnimon continued to struggle against the current, but then…he lost consciousness. Jessica looked over and saw that her Digimon was drowning. "Omnimon!" She cried out. Omnimon was in really bad shape. His armor was cracked from head to toe, his Grey Sword had been cut in half, his chest armor was shattered, and now to top it all off, he was drowning! Omnimon floated down to the ocean floor facing upwards.

Jessica swam over to her fallen Digimon. "Omnimon! Please! Hang on!" She said. She tried to lift her Digimon up so she could take him to the surface, but he was far too large and heavy. "I don't understand! I should be more than strong enough to lift you!" Jessica said. Jessica stared down at Omnimon, he was unresponsive. He laid at the bottom of the ocean floor motionless. Jessica continued trying to lift him. "Come….on!" She said. Jessica strained. "Poseidon….could lift….mountains! Why….can't…..I…..lift…..?" Jessica said while straining. She then gave up and looked down at the motionless Omnimon. Jessica looked down at her Digimon with sadness.

AncientMermaidmon swam towards the shore of the Continent Of Asioo to rampage some more. Jessica threw her body over that of her Digimon's. She believed this would be Omnimon's last moments and that at any moment, she would be sitting with two DigiEggs in front of her; one for WarGreymon and one for MetalGarurumon. "I won't leave you. Even though I can't help you, I won't leave you." She said.

Jessica suddenly found herself standing on top of a lake with Omnimon standing about 15 feet in front of her. It was like they had been transported to another dimension. Jessica didn't look like her usual self. She appeared to be 11 years old and was wearing the same clothes she wore in the group photo she looked at earlier. "Omnimon? Where are we?" Jessica asked. Omnimon was silent before responding "Inside my mind." It was just a guess, but it was just as good a guess as any. "Omnimon, I'm sorry I couldn't protect you." She said. Omnimon shook his head. "No. I'm sorry I couldn't protect YOU. I'm your Digimon after all. I'm supposed to protect my partner. However….I'm not strong enough. AncientMermaidmon is far too powerful. It took me a while to figure it out, but her strength doesn't just come from being a Mega level Digimon. By being fused with a Digimon, Queen Katie's underlying goddess powers of her own have awakened. It's like Kinandon had told you earlier. The power of the Neptunes was suppressed through genetic modification. In fusing with AncientMermaidmon, Katie's DNA was 'fixed' so to speak. So I was fighting an already strong Digimon super charged with the DNA of an ancient god." Omnimon explained. Jessica looked down and frowned. When she did, she noticed that she was standing over a large body of water. She could see her reflection in the water and saw that she looked exactly like she did in 2006. "Why do I look like this?" Jessica asked, staring at her 11 year old face in the water's reflection. Omnimon chuckled. "No matter how old you get, Jessica. This is how I'll always see you." He responded. Jessica raised her head from her reflection to look in Omnimon's direction. She saw that standing where Omnimon stood were Evander's Agumon and her Gabumon. They walked over towards her.

She grabbed both of them and embraced them. "I tried to lift you both out of the water. But you were too heavy. I'm afraid you don't have much time left. I don't understand. How could I throw a building at a bunch of Tylomon and not…" She said, choking up. Gabumon and Agumon took a step back. "Earlier, when you caused that city to disappear, you lost your nerve. It was written all over your face. That's my guess as to why you couldn't lift us. Your self doubt affects your ability to use your powers." Gabumon said. "You were so confident! And you were pretty cool! You were like a super hero! But your self-doubt is like….like your Kryptonite." Agumon said.

"I just don't want my nightmare to come true." Jessica said, her voice being much higher in this child form.

"Jessica, I believe in you. With your power, I've been able to digivolve to higher and higher levels. Who's to say I won't digivolve again?" Gabumon said.

"Yeah! With you, we can digivolve to the max! Maximize!" Agumon said.

"Jessica. Whether you're a princess, a goddess, a mermaid, or anything else, one thing will always be the case; you're my friend and I love you. And friends are always there for each other." Gabumon said.

Jessica stood up. Now, she was an adult woman again, wearing her revealing dark green metallic armor with a mermaid tail. Standing in front of her was no longer Agumon and Gabumon, but Omnimon. Omnimon took out his Grey Sword, which wasn't broken in half anymore. Jessica raised her trident and touched the Grey Sword with it. The golden aura around Jessica transferred to Omnimon!

They both found themselves back in the real world, and not Omnimon's inner mental world anymore. Omnimon was glowing with Jessica's golden goddess glow. The cracks in his armor were spontaneously repaired. Jessica realized that in the real world, Jessica's trident was making contact with Omnimon's Grey Sword just as in the mental world. Her Digivice in her pants pocket on shore started beeping wildly. Evander noticed it, walked over, and took Jessica's digivice out of her pocket. "What's going on with this thing?" The digivice then flew out of his hand and out towards the sea. They had all landed after the maelstrom had died down. Under the sea, Jessica saw her blue smartphone-like digivice flying towards her direction. She reached out and caught it. Her digivice was also glowing in a golden light. She looked down at her digivice and she could see in big capital green letters "MAXIMIZED BIOMERGE DIGIVOLUTION"

Jessica's golden aura then enveloped both her and Omnimon. Jessica slowly floated backwards towards Omnimon and then was absorbed by him!

"Omnimon maximize biomerge to….MarineOmnimon!"

Omnimon had digivolved to an even higher level than Ultra. Jessica was astonished. "We…..biomerged?" She said in amazement. "Better," Began the voice of her MetalGarurumon, "We maximize biomerged. Look at our form." He replied. MarineOmnimon looked mostly like regular Omnimon except instead of white armor, it's wearing aqua blue armor, and the interior of his cape is an aquamarine color instead of red, though the outer part of the cape is white like regular Omnimon is. The blue stripes on the upper part of Omnimon's armor have been replaced with light green stripes. MarineOmnimon is also wearing what looks like King Triton's crown. MarineOmnimon was also sporting an orange mermaid tail instead of legs. The WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon head-arms look no different from regular Omnimon. The back of MarineOmnimon's cape has "στοργή" written on the back. The word is "Storgi" which is Greek for "Affection". This is because Jessica's crest is the Crest of Affection. Underneath is the Greek word for Justice, "δικαιοσύνη" or dikaiosýni, representing Evander's Crest. MarineOmnimon looked in the direction of the shore. "I am MarineOmnimon. And I will end this war." When MarineOmnimon spoke, three voices could be heard speaking in unison; WarGreymon's, MetalGarurumon's, and Jessica's.
