Tübingen is situated along the Neckar river in southern Germany, not far from the city of Stuttgart, the capital of the state of Baden-Württemberg. Founded in 1477, the University of Tübingen today hosts nearly 30,000 students, a third of the total population of the town, and is one of 11 "Excellence Universities" of Germany.
Most of the conference will be held in the "Pfleghofsaal," which sits near to the collegiate church of St. George in the heart of the old town. The building was built in the 14th-15th century for use by the Cistercian order from Bebenhausen Abbey. Today, the building is part of the university and houses the Institute of Musicology. Other events, namely the Ice Breaker at the start of the conference, will take place in the "Quenstedtbau," which houses the Paleontology Museum of the University, as well as working groups affiliated with the Institute for Archaeological Sciences and the Senckenberg Center for Human Evolution and Paleoenvironment.
