For college students, this book has it all. It is a quick and easy read that can serve as a wonderful stress-reliever during the school year, and it addresses relevant topics, including: tragic love lives; the struggle to pay for tuition; cutting back on unnecessary expenses to pay for said tuition; trying to maintain old friendships; and searching for a path in life that is both enjoyable and practical. Moreover, throughout the book, Alice shows understandable fear and apprehension, but also determination, which can be incredibly encouraging for anyone going through similar situations.

Evaluation: I may find fault with the plot, but there is rabid love for this book all over the place. If you are into bad boy romances characterized by attitudes of female submission, perhaps you will love it as well. And the writing is not bad for a young girl.

Yet, God provides a way for a restored relationship in His love. And just like our story, it requires a Father to sacrifice His Son. God provided a ram to be the substitute for Isaac. In contrast, God provided His Son to be the substitute for us and to pay the price for our sins.

John 3: 16 For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world but to save the world through him.[9] We need only to trust Jesus to forgive our sins and restore our relationship with God.

Agape represents the highest and deepest form of love, characterized by its unconditional and selfless nature. Eros, on the other hand, is predominantly associated with sexual and romantic love. Phileo love, in contrast, is rooted in friendship and companionship.

Such words that demonstrate aspect of love are forgiveness, kindness, patience, gentleness, repentance, mercy, encouragement, fellowship, and spiritual warfare. All of these words are motivated by love and ways for Christians to express unconditional love.

God is in love with humanity. His overall goal is to have relationship with all of his creation. Throughout history, God sent prophets, signs, and miracles to convince people that they could trust him. However, people put false Gods, sexual pleasures, and earthly things before him.

But, humans have even made repentance sound like punishment from a harsh and controlling God. Repentance is an act of love. To repent is to acknowledge and change a behavior that is hurting ourselves or others. God called his people to repent, so they could be in relationship with him.

The truth is, God has open arms of love for the one whom repents. God will go as far as forgiving the stripper, racist, drug addict, murderer, gossiper, and all the other types of sinners. The Bible is littered with sinners that God still used because they repented. This includes David the adulterer and murder AND Paul the Christian murderer.

As Christians, it is our calling to love and pray for sinners just as much as God would. God wants his children to pick up their cross daily (make daily sacrifices) and lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. This entails putting others before our own needs. Just like Jesus did.

Set in a roomy upstairs suite, motel managers Holly & Duane discuss the disintegration of their marriage. Duane has been having an affair with a cleaning lady, Juanita. Duane tries to convince Holly that their love can be rekindled and reconciled but Holly does not agree. Duane is left hopelessly bemoaning the future he had envisioned with Holly. Though he is self aware that it might not have really been the future he wanted himself. The manuscript version of the same title appears in Beginners (2009).

The character of Jack Fraser, in classical Carver style, tells the story of a local outsider named Dummy who worked in the same sawmill as Jack's father Del. Del gets Dummy to fill a pond on his land with bass, but Dummy eventually builds an electric fence around it so people stop coming by. Dummy drifts further into isolation and his wife starts going around with another man, much to his discontent. The story ends with Dummy murdering his wife and committing suicide by drowning in his beloved pond. Del impresses upon Jack what a wrong woman can turn a man into. Later, Jack understands Dummy's plight more clearly. The manuscript version titled "Dummy" appears in Beginners (2009).

They soon start to talk about love. Terri has had an abusive relationship; the abuse, she says, derives from love. Ed, Terri's former abusive boyfriend, "loved her so much he tried to kill her." Ed would beat Terri; he dragged her around the living room by her ankles knocking her into things along the way. Terri believes that Ed loved her and his abuse was his way of showing it. No matter what Terri says, Mel refuses to believe that was "love". Ed also stalked Mel and Terri and called Mel at work with threatening messages. At one point, Mel was so scared he bought a gun and made out a will. Mel even wrote to his brother in California, saying that "if something happened to him" to look for Ed.

Terri's abusive boyfriend eventually committed suicide after two attempts (as Terri sees it, another act of love). Ed's first attempt at suicide was when Terri had left him. Ed had drunk rat poison, but was rushed to the hospital where he was saved. In Ed's second, successful attempt he shot himself in the mouth. Terri and Mel argued about whether she could be in the hospital bedroom with him when he died. Terri won and was with Ed as he died; as Terri puts it, "He never came up out of it."

Mel strays from the topic with more talk about Ed, his personal thoughts about love, hatred toward his ex-wife, and life as a knight. Mel feels even though one loves a person, if something were to happen to them, the survivor would grieve but love again.

Carver's original draft of the story "Beginners" was heavily edited by Gordon Lish, who cut out nearly half of Carver's story, adding in details of his own. Carver's original draft, released by his widow Tess Gallagher and published[7] in a December 2007 issue of the New Yorker, reveals the extensive edits. For instance, the character Mel was originally named Herb, and the abusive boyfriend, renamed Ed by Lish, was originally named Carl. Additionally, Herb's story about the old couple was cut nearly in half, with Lish removing the story of the old couple's home life, love, and reunion in the hospital. In Carver's original version, the two had separate rooms, which caused them to pine for each other and eventually led to a scene when they met again. Lish removed all of this, rewrote the couple into the same room, but in body casts that prevented them from seeing each other, and then explained the old man's distress thus:

Lish also cut out eight paragraphs at the end, in which Terri communicates her worry over Herb's depression to Laura and Nick, and another aspect of love is shown as Laura comforts Terri, tying together all the types of love discussed in the story.

And money decisions involve love. When are you going to retire? Are you going to have enough money to retire? What career are you going to pursue and how is that going to affect the rest of your family? All money and love intertwines.

Matt Abrahams: We heard you mention those a little earlier. And I can see how important they are. So listening is very clear. And that has become more and more of a theme on this podcast about communication, is how important listening is. Can you remind us and give us a little more detail on the treading lightly?

Then, as the Spirit shows you more about Jesus, talk about what you see and learn. Talk to your roommate about how amazing Jesus is. Tell your friends. Speak with your children about him. The more you do, the more you will love him. And the more you love him, the more you will want to talk about him.

I have watched literally every I Love Lucy and I think I can probably say the same thing about several other old shows. I can say that while I recall explicit mention of the year in which a Twilight Zone and maybe Outer Limits episode was made and other mentions of public figures like LBJ that would allow one to know pretty close to the current year, I Love Lucy never mentioned the current year. I think rarely they Fred might talk about some old show biz experience occurring in the 1920s (he had a vaudeville act) but even that sort of thing would tend to date episodes. Of course the copyright date was shown, but I read Roman numerals were used specifically to obscure production dates.

Anyway, the question is as in the title: Did I Love Lucy manage to not mention the current year ever in any show? Can the same be said of other shows of that time? (I am not sure about later shows like Seinfeld.)

One thought is that perhaps they, in the 1950s, did not understand what inflation would be like. Occasionally money comes up. I recall on their cross-country trip they stop at a "hotel" or "motel" and they are charged what we are led to believe is an outrageous price and what turns out to be a dollar, the equivalent of about 15 or even 20 today. But they also may have had an inkling about inflation, because I actually can't think of too many times money used to pay for ordinary things is mentioned.

I think the question, the primary part of the question, is valid. Did they ever mention the year? No, probably not, they did not have to and there really wasn't any reason to because television "was in it's infancy", it dated itself. Also, mention of politics on an entertainment program was probably highly frowned upon - remember that this is the era where also during 1947 the first Mccarthy era Hollywood blacklist appeared and it took down a lot of prominent people, Even Charlie Chaplin was labeled a communist in 1952, one year after ILL began broadcast.

Given the facts, it's safe to conclude I Love Lucy was not intentionally obscuring the year of production so as to secure itself as a re-runnable property, but that doesn't mean they went out of their way to mention it either. e24fc04721
