The filtering and segmentation from the CT (or MRI) 2D-images can be quite challanging! So let´s try an external cloud service. But it has to be a CT scan.
This is the Cloud workflow I have tried, works on Mac and PC:
Dicom (CT 2D files) -> NRRD-file (anonymized) -> Mesh (STL 3D-model) -> repair, adjust -> make a 3D-print
Start 3D Slicer and choose File > DICOM
Click button Import Dicom files
Choose a scan serie and click Load
Click Save button to bring up Save Scene window
Choose a folder for the nrrd export, Save
Close 3D Slicer and verify that you got the nrrd-file
Login (make an account) at the Embodi3D web page
find democratiz3D and Launch App button

Drag and drop your NRRD file
Upload begins
Required, File Name and About This File needs to be filled in
Type: Free
Privacy: Share this File
License Type: Free Files CC - Attribution
Operation: Very Detailed Better quality but slower (can take up to 60 min!)
Threshold: Default 150 We leave like that
Quality: Ultra (Premium) Slower but the best :)

Category of Processed File(s): Thorax and Ribs

Point to a folder
It´s time to Analyze the new 3D-model
Simplify the file name
Open it in MeshMixer (alt. Blender or any other polygon software you prefer)
Cut out the interesting part
Select and delete, use Plane Cut as well
Check with the Inspector for holes or imperfections
Seperate Shells to find "extra" pieces
Resize (check size) to fit your 3D-printer
If "heavy" you might reduce the mesh count
Export as an STL-file
Open in Old Netfabb free
Click Analyze and hope for an "Yes, Yes"
If not there is a possibility foe an easy repair with Extras > Repair Part
