Dickinson High School's baseball program first started in 1998 under Duane Monlux as a club baseball team. In 2000 the NDHSAA sanctioned baseball to be a high school sport. That year saw current head coach Pete Dobitz to take over the program and has led it ever since. The 2000 season saw Dickinson go all the way to the state title game, falling to Grand Forks Central, and led to the determination to make it back and win a state title. That would happen the very next year in 2001 against the very same opponent to give Dickinson High School the first state championships in program history. Since then, the Midgets have won state titles in 2004, 2007, 2009, and 2016. In addition the Midgets were the regular season conference champions in 2001, 2002, 2008, 2014, 2017, 2021, 2022, and WDA Tournament champions in 2001, 2002, 2007, 2009, 2012, and 2017.
