Dick Alexander

Richard L. Alexander (1926-2017) was a World War II veteran, serving two years in the U.S. Navy aboard LST 833. He was a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL. Dick worked for Travelers Insurance Co. in Peoria for nine years as an insurance adjuster. In 1960, he became an insurance agent in Washington, IL, until his retirement on August 1, 1991.

Dick was active in Washington, serving as a city alderman from 1957 until 1961. He was a member of Washington Grade School District 52 board and served on the Washington Park Board and Trustee of Washington Township for 8 years. Dick was a Rotarian from 1960 until 1995 and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a member of the Washington Civic Club from 1960 until 2001. Dick was also a member of the WCHS Booster Club and received Panthers Pride Award, along with his wife, Ruth, in 1989. He was awarded the Washingtonian Award in 1961. Dick was a founder of the Washington Biddy Basketball program.
