I only studied physics in between Prelims and Mains. It was not ideal but based on my constraints I had no choice if I wanted to give a decent attempt. Thus, I covered the bare minimum of what I felt was needed based on previous year successful candidates interviews. I scored 278 eventually but it is still advisable to do the things listed in What ought to be done section rather than focusing on What I could do.

I had joined DIAS online classes. These are recorded lecturers covering almost entire syllabus barring few topics in superconductors and Nuclear Physics (off late). Following is what I could do across various dimension (theory, practice, evaluation of preparation, revision strategy, answer writing)

Thanks a lot sir

Sir could you please also enlighten me as to how the physics optional is touched upon in the interview stage given that one is from an engineering background?(given the vastness of physics as such)

And also sir how did you prepare for the interview stage with regards to physics?

Hey, firstly one should not bother much about interview stage at this point of time, you can prepare for it when the time comes. In my actual interview no Q was asked related to physics but one obviously has to prepare something.

If you are curious enough, you can refer to the Qs I prepared before interview to get an idea. Navigate using below instructions.

Interview tab-> DAF based google excel sheet link-> Physics tab

While I was only able to complete DiAS classes and tut sheets, I am not sure whether that suffice, my marks would only tell me. Ideally, one reference book is suggested to be read and solved examples to be done by other toppers. You can find details in the links I have provided above

I think more than half of my time was devoted to physics only. This was in context of me starting physics only after Prelims. For someone, who might have completed the optional earlier, lesser time would also do

and sir for GS can you give me insights on how to plan revisions? After i complete the syllabus once then should i go through the entire thing again or should i keep revising in between? Aapne kaise kara tha sir

I have enrolled in Dias online physics course. How did you approach the course in limited time?I mean since you did online class material+Tuts. What was your strategy about them? How did you plan revisions? Were you able to do any value additions? Please do tell your way of approaching the subject in minimum time and get maximum output.

Thank you!

Hey, many congratulations for the success and i wish you all the best for future. Thank you that you have explained everything and it is truly helpful in a practical way, but can you please suggest me how did you plan for answer writing in such a short span of time coz that is the utmost important part of mains and how were you able to conquer it?

Please guide me.

Respective Sir I am in BSc 2nd year and thought to get into preparation with physics optional. Is there coaching for physics optional must to attend? I am in financial crises so please tell what can I do to prepare it without coaching?

When I study it self I face some mathematical problems how I cope those too? Your response is most valueable for me.

I prepared from DIAS online lectures only. Apart from suggestions from other toppers, I can suggest that if you cant join classes due to monetary reasons or otherwise- You can request sir to tag you to a person in the class whos ready to help you in clearing the concepts

DIAS will be helpful. You should or shouldnt depend on your financial/other constraints

hardcopy/pdf is a personal choice

I havent read Abhijeet sir notes thoroughly. Books should be read

I dont have data to ascertain if thats the case. But choose the optional thats right for you

I had work experience of over 3 years, if not UPSC I would have gotten other job. But during the break I took for preparation, I only studied.

I have started preparing for CSE2022(first attempt). I am from an engineering background(Electronics and Communication) and I am not really good at cramming. Should I opt for Anthropology or Physics optional ?

I am confused between anthro and physics(interested in the subject, studied a bit during B.tech, not an expert in it)

Sir please can you tell how vipassna helped in your preparation ( i recall your drishti interview where you mentioned it as a hobby in your daf) during the last few months.and how many hours on an average were you devoting daily during the last 4 months.

First of all, Vipassana is no magic that will make everything right. Honestly, during preparation I tried sitting for 15-30 mins everyday intermittently but was too anxious/worried to focus on breath let alone looking equanimously at body sensations. But to manage anxiety, even talking to friends/family could help and for increasing focus even the simple determination to keep going could also help.

Hello sir,

Sir at this point of time I am unable to join coaching for physics optional. But I got some broad idea of physics syllabus and PYQ because of my Mechanical engineering background. So is it possible for me to target 2022 if I would start physics in november. Also can you please tell me how many marks you were able to attempt in both papers of physics out of 250 each?

I am not sure how to approach physics without coaching. I think Varjeet Walia sir did it without it, you can check his videos to get an idea of how to go about it. I dont remember the attempt exactly but i think 95%+ in first paper and 85%+ in second

Hallo Sir ,

My name is Anand Mohan [ Currently Teaching Physics at Aakash Institute for JEE]

Will you please be kind enough to share Your email?

My question-

1) Where can I get DIAS class room Notes?

2) As you mentioned in your interview and blog ,You have had to cover entire syllabus in very less time ,Did you self study or Taken DIAS ?

3) Will you please share online lecture where you think aspirant can prepare themselves.

Will wait for Your gracious reply

Thanks and Regards!

Sir,due to financial constraints I am unable to join dias classes. My main problem is how to solve numerical approach, how can I access previous year paper solution, coaching notes? Am i able to clear this exam or not??plzz help me out of this

hi sir

i am preparing for physics optional but getting more difficulties in Electrodynamics from Griffiths

but not able to get any topics from that book i am very confused plz suggest me to handle this chapter

thanks

I consulted these notes at very later stage, primarily to prepare some of the fringe topics like magnetic shell in Electro, NMR, applications of H ion in astronomy etc.. I also solved the given numerical in the notes.

I had no pure background in Physics except the fundamental concepts of senior secondary and few basic courses attended while during engineering. Yet, if there is one subject which I love the most and could study just for the sake of it, then it was Physics only; thus, I chose Physics over any other optional. NOT because it was scoring, or had less syllabus or was easy or whatever. For as every one says that each optional is equally difficult and easy; thus, what matters is personal inclination for a subject and nothing else.

In this examination the physics optional syllabus is midway of BSc and that of MSc hons. in Physics. Thus, in order to cover the syllabus in best suited time and understand the overall demands of the examination, I joined the classroom study program at DIAS under the guidance of DP Vajpeyi Sir. I for one can say that these classes were upto the mark and helped a lot in covering the depth and breath of the whole syllabus in a very holistic manner. Around 60% of final notes got prepared during the classes itself while rest were finalized with self study and topic wise books and Internet.

This blog is an attempt to share my preparation strategy for Civil services examination. Here is a brief background of mine: I am a graduate in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from IIT Guwahati. I graduated in 2013. Afterwards I worked for about 16 months in an oilfield MNC (Schlumberger). I resigned from the same in July 2015 and came back home to prepare full time for the civil services examination.

CSE 2016 was my first attempt and I chose Physics as the optional for I had confidence on no other subject and the very reason that I would get to study it again pushed me to come forth to appear in this exam.
