My name is Diana Lebeaux, and I have been a member of the Chelmsford School Committee since the spring town election of 2024. I am currently serving as Secretary of the School Committee. Although I was born and raised in Maine, I've lived in Chelmsford for nearly a decade, and my husband Ben and I have chosen this town to raise our children in. A big part of our decision is how much we love Chelmsford Schools. As someone who has worked in education for my entire career, I have spent time working in and with schools all over Massachusetts and beyond, and I have a good sense of what makes for successful schools that align with a community's priorities, the needs of its students, and the assets that each member of the school community brings. I've also seen firsthand, as the mother of two children - both currently in Chelmsford schools - the real impact that our policies as well as our teachers, leaders, and support staff alike all have on our children every day. I also bring a great appreciation for the complexity of running a school district and a nuanced perspective on new - and recurring - educational issues. Foremost, I am strongly committed to being an advocate for all of the members of this wonderful community.
I am excited to apply all of the following in my new role on the Chelmsford School Committee:
Educational background: As an undergraduate, I studied education, and I received my Master's Degree from New York University in the field of Educational Leadership. In this master's program, I focused on both school building leadership and on politics and advocacy.
School Teaching and Leadership Experience: I have a background as a teacher, mainly at the middle school level, as well as in school administration. In addition to teaching core content as an English teacher, I also have significant experience teaching, leading, and supervising extracurricular, enrichment, and educational support programming.
Volunteering in Chelmsford Schools: In addition to volunteering for various events and focus groups within the district, I have also spent five years on the school councils of the schools my children have attended.
CPS Parent: The mother of a fourth grader and a kindergartener, I have experienced Chelmsford Schools from the lens of a parent and have a vested interest in working for the best possible future for the district.
A Leader for Educational Equity: For the past eight years, I have worked for organizations that partner with schools, districts, and directly with teachers to offer professional development, change leadership support, and thought partnership in working to make schools stronger and to ensure that they are equitable learning places for all students, including those who have not traditionally been granted a voice in school design.
Community Connections: I'm a proud member of the Chelmsford Mother's Club, a 501(c)(3) organization of Chelmsford area parents; actively connected to parents across the district; and I have engaged in meetings and discussions with educators and leaders of a wide variety of roles in the district.
Content Expertise: I have significant experience with literacy, including Science of Reading-based early literacy curricula, culturally-responsive content for all age levels, and reading and writing comprehension. I also have experience with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and math content. I have been the director of a statewide project working with Civics teachers and content as well, rounding out my background comfort with a variety of educational content. Moreover, I have expertise and significant experience with project-based and student-centered learning practices, Innovation Pathways, and social-emotional learning..
Policy Leadership Skills: Finally, I also have significant experience with budgeting, scheduling, communications, curriculum auditing, and research/data/evaluations practices, which will all help me contribute positively to our School Committee.
