Barnagar College is one of the premier institutions in the  District of Barpeta (Assam) .Barnagar College was established on September 3, 1962 and it was situated at the heart of sorbhog town. as a night college by Ghanashyam Talukdar, a local educationist and socio-political figure. it is affiliated to the gauhati universiity.it is the third oldest college in the barpeta district.it has been affilated to the UGC under 2(f)since 1969.Barnagar College is one of the leading institutions of higher education in the Barpeta district. It is committed to providing quality education to its students and to contributing to the social and economic development of the region.

Over the 60 years, the college has grown significantly in terms of infrastructure, faculty, and student enrollment. It now offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in arts, science, and commerce. The college is also affiliated to the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the National Cadet Corps (NCC).
