Another type of dialer is a computer program which creates a connection to the Internet or another computer network over the analog telephone or Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN). Many operating systems already contain such a program for connections through the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), such as WvDial.

Many internet service providers offer installation CDs to simplify the process of setting up a proper Internet connection. They either create an entry in the OS's dialer or install a separate dialer (as the AOL software does).

Dialers are necessary to connect to the internet (at least for non-broadband connections), but some dialers are designed to connect to premium-rate numbers. The providers of such dialers often search for security holes in the operating system installed on the user's computer and use them to set the computer up to dial up through their number, so as to make money from the calls. Alternatively, some dialers inform the user what it is that they are doing, with the promise of special content, accessible only via the special number. Examples of this content include software for download, (usually illegal) trojans posing as MP3s, trojans posing as pornography, or 'underground' programs such as cracks and keygens.

Users with DSLs (or similar broadband connections) are usually not affected. A dialer can be downloaded and installed, but dialing in is not possible as there are no regular phone numbers in the DSL network and users will not typically have their dial-up modem, if any, connected to a phone line. However, if an ISDN adapter or additional analog modem is installed, the dialer might still be able to get a connection.

Computers running Microsoft Windows without anti-virus software or proper updates could be vulnerable to Visual Basic-scripts which install a trojan horse which changes values in the Windows Registry and sets Internet Explorer security settings in a way that ActiveX controls can be downloaded from the Internet without warning. After this change is made, when a user accesses a malicious page or email message, it can start installing the dialer. The script also disables the modem speaker and messages that normally come up while dialing into a network. Users of Microsoft Office Outlook, Outlook Express and Internet Explorer are especially affected if running ActiveX controls and JavaScript is allowed and the latest security patches from Microsoft have not been installed.In March 2004, there were malicious dialers that could be installed through fake anti-virus software[citation needed]. E-mail spam from a so-called "AntiVirus Team" for example, contained download links to programs named "downloadtool.exe" or "antivirus.exe", which are malicious dialers. Other ways of transmission include electronic greeting cards that link to pages that tricks the user to install ActiveX controls, which in turn install dialers in the background.

In December 2016, Ofcom (The Office of Communications) announced changes to their call centre regulations. These focused on the persistent use of dialers to make call to residential telephone numbers. They also added extra clarity to how call centres should approach the issue of silent and abandoned calls.[1]

Working though an issue with a cluster deployment on VMware. The rancheros 1.0.5 vms are created, however after about 5 or so minutes I see this in the webui.

Looking rancher logs show an issue setting up SSH. However if I use the key from rancher, I can ssh to rancheros as rancher. Any ideas, are there other logs to look at to get a better understanding of what is failing?

I would like to add a predictive dialer to the Sales and Marketing tools. Fresh leads can be loaded into a mian data base. formated with the new client info fields. If a relationship is made then the clients data gets added as a contact under your database of clients. You can add notes about the client in the marketing portal to schedule marketing materials be sent out for Birthdays or discount gift cards on products that they like.

I agree. HubSpot needs a predictive- NOT POWER there is a huge difference. Predictive lets me dial a handful of numbers at the same time. I have been in this industry for over a decade. I used a predictive dialer that doesnt integrate with hubspot and it blows all the power dialers in the world out ofthe water. Ring Central needs to be integrated with hubspot

There's the GrantPermissionsRule that helps with setting permissions already defined in your manifest but how does one deal with becoming the default dialer or SMS application? I'd accept even an adb command that you could run using a Runtime execute command.

This command configures the VPN dialer. A VPN dialer is a Windows application that configures a Windows client for use with the VPN services in the managed device. When VPN is used as an access method, a user can login using captive portal and download a VPN dialer. You can customize a VPN dialer for a user role configured with the user-role command. Hi, I have a Cisco Router I have configured to work with a DSL modem via a dialer. I also have a GRE SSL VPN tunnel. I wish to monitor the traffic coming in from the Internet. Should I monitor the outside interface (GE 0/1), or the dialer, or does it mater?

If you monitor the Ge0/1, you'll get the dialer traffic, as well as the rest of it. The dialer traffic should be rather small, so probably not a lot of different in how much traffic. If you're monitoring with Netflow (ie: NTA), you will see very few types of traffic, the little bit of dialer traffic and probably GRE tunnel traffic. Monitoring this interface will also let you know if the physical link goes down, lets say if the modem you have attached loses power completely. But, this interface can be up without you having an active connection to the Internet also.

Monitoring the Dialer interface will get you similar traffic as above, probably minus a little bit for the dialer traffic that you won't see by monitoring this interface. Netflow will see mainly your GRE traffic and nothing else. Monitoring this interface will let you know whether your connection to the Internet is up I believe, lets say your provider accidentally deletes your credentials and you can't reauthenticate, the GE0/1 interface would be up, but this one should be down. This is a good place to put an ACL to restrict traffic to your GRE tunnel too, if that's all you have going over it that is. ff782bc1db
