We are Shorewood High School students in the class of Visual Journalism. This class was created two years ago and every semester since the class started they have finished with a capstone project. The capstone project is the combined work of multiple students that take the two main aspects of the class; graphic design and journalism, then create a large project with the knowledge they learned earlier the semester. Our group is made of people who wouldn’t usually work together if the project did not ask them to. As a group we brainstormed different topics and ideas for our capstone project and, and we had decided that mental health was our favorite and most intriguing topic to all of us, we brainstormed what we wanted to tackle and focus on without project and each person had a specific objective we wanted to accomplish. Jack Tetting wanted to help the audience of this project better understand these disorders, Aidan wanted to clear misconceptions, Lowell wanted to give the audience an understanding of what it is like to have these disorders, and Nick wanted to naturalize it. In order to find people who are willing to talk about their specific mental or neurological disorder we used our connections to set up interviews with people that we either knew or could connect with. We decided as a group out of each of the main types of journalism; Video, audio, and written to do a primarily video project assignment. And further down we decided to do a website based project with each individual interview within the website.
