We talked briefly about sharps containers on the last page, but lets talk about it!
It may just be just a small red box, but it's a pretty big deal for anyone that utilizes sharps for medical use! Most importantly, it is a testament of how crucial advocacy is in the community.
Back in Fall 2021, Commissioner for Disability Affairs Officer Destiny Islas (Club Founder & Future Club President) proposed to the University Student Union (USU) Directors to insert sharps containers in all USU bathroom facilities to help students and staff safely dispose their sharps in the USU. A couple zoom meetings and outlook emails later, sharp containers were officially inserted in all University Student Union restroom facilities in FALL 2021.
The sharps containers in the USU restroom facilities help bring awareness here at CSULB! Advocacy is powerful, and it all starts with a vision.
As of 2024, they have and are currently expanding the sharps containers initiative all throughout campus due to its success within the USU facilities.
A special thank you to USU directors for listening to student voices and being apart of the change for students here at CSULB.
