Astrobiology STEM Activation Program (ASAP)

ASAP is a four-week program to engage elementary school students in space farming and related STEM practices. It is infused with our work with the Growing Beyond Earth (GBE) and NASA HUNCH (High School Students United with NASA to Create Hardware) and is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers passionate about space.

Four-Week Program

Week 1: How to grow plants in space?
Week 2: Build a space plant habitat
Week 3: Design your own space experiment
Week 4: Pot your own space plants

Community Outreach

Kids’ Day at the Mall is DHSF–ASAP’s annual community outreach event, inviting local families to explore hands-on space science and NASA-inspired design. Student leaders share interactive activities, prototypes, and real research to spark the next generation of “space farmers.”

Kids Day Reflection

Kids’ Day 2026 at Midland Mall gave Dow High Space Farmers a strong public-facing moment to combine outreach, recruitment, and NASA-relevant design thinking in one hands-on exhibit. We turned a mall walkway into a mini habitat lab—hands-on STEM builds at the table, then a walk-in rocket and RGB lighting demo that let kids choose the kind of sleep-lighting they’d want as astronauts...........
