Professor Rossana Damiano - Stories and characters from the past
When we think about stories, we immediately think of a person telling a story with their voice. However, in today's media, the range of tools for telling stories has expanded to visual tools, which convey stories in a convenient form for graphic displays with a limited use of words. These formats represent an alternative, but also an integration, to traditional narratives. In this tutorial, I will review visual tools, such as timelines and maps, by which data series about characters, and historical characters in particular, can be converted into effective narratives.
Professor Oliviero Stock - Dramatic experience in the museum
In this talk I will talk about a work we developed years ago in Haifa and in Trento, concerned with the introduction of technology-based theatre at the museum. The purpose was twofold: a) introducing an innovative modality for appreciating cultural heritage, and specifically b) inducing conversation among a small group visiting jointly the museum, a desirable feature of the museum experience according to ethnographic studies.
I shall also briefly discuss a few other ideas in relation to storytelling, drama and other technology-based modalities for involving visitors in the cultural heritage experience.
Dr. Anna Maria - Digital storytelling and Italian archaeological museums
As shown by the numerous surveys conducted between 2020 and 2022, the Pandemic has pushed Italian museums towards digital communication, the only vehicle for dialoguing with visitors. Museums have sought and explored new ways and forms of storytelling: virtual tours, video
stories, podcasts.
Often, however, as already highlighted by the research of ICOM Italy on “museum web strategy”, the quality of content is not very high, and a precise strategy is lacking. In this presentation we will present some best practices of storytelling in Italian archaeological museums, presenting their
activities and projects.
