HE Career Talk: Home Economists Take Flight in Diverse Fields

The field of Home Economics is a journey that lifts us toward the skies. It is an adventure where each lesson becomes a waypoint and every challenge offers a chance to soar higher.
On November 8, 2025, the UP Diliman College of Home Economics, in collaboration with the UP Circle of Home Economists, hosted an inspiring event titled "𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤: 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐅𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭." Held at Gusali 2B from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the event brought together students, alumni, and professionals to celebrate the diverse career paths of Home Economics graduates.
The event began with opening remarks from Prof. Shirley V. Guevarra, Dean of the College of Home Economics. Following this, the speakers shared insights into the diverse career paths of Home Economics graduates. Ms. Chandra Chloe L. Garcia discussed opportunities in the field of Education; Mgr. Kristel T. Estrella highlighted careers in Food Service; Mr. Edgar Raphael A. Lapuz shared his experiences as a Future Leader in the Corporate Sector; Ms. Jeriah Kassandra A. Golamco talked about roles in Non-Government Organizations; and Dr. Jonas Erik D. Cabrera provided perspectives on the field of Medicine.
The event aimed to highlight the versatility of a Home Economics degree by showcasing the diverse paths alumni have taken. Speakers shared their personal journeys and their stories emphasized that a foundation in Home Economics opens doors to many career avenues.
After each speaker gave their talks, attendees had the chance to engage in meaningful discussions through open forums and breakout sessions, where alumni offered insights into their professions, shared practical advice, and discussed the importance of soft skills like adaptability, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence. These exchanges provided current students with a broader perspective on potential career options and the relevance of their education beyond traditional expectations.
The event concluded with closing Remarks from Asst. Prof. Aurora S. Llige.
