Dexcom Apps
Dexcom, a leader in continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology, has introduced new apps that provide enhanced features for diabetes management. The Dexcom ecosystem includes four main apps: the Dexcom G6 and G7 apps, the Dexcom Follow app, and the Dexcom Clarity app.
The Dexcom G6 app, which is paired with the Dexcom continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) G6 system, enables users to monitor their glucose levels 24/7 without fingersticks and share data with followers and healthcare providers. This seamless data sharing has been associated with benefits such as more time spent in range, lower A1C, fewer episodes of hypoglycemia, and improved quality of sleep for users. The wearing period of the Dexcom G6 sensor is 10 days.
The Dexcom G7 app is a simplified version of the application and is built for those with diabetes during pregnancy. The G7 comes with an updated app and connectivity features, offering a more user-friendly experience and improved data-sharing capabilities. It is compatible with the Dexcom G7 system and introduces several advancements and differences compared to the Dexcom G6. The Dexcom G7 sensor is 60% smaller than the G6, making it more comfortable and discreet. It measures 24 x 27.3 x 4.6 mm, and 94.3% of users reported feeling no pain during sensor insertion. The G7 features a faster sensor warm-up, taking just 30 minutes, and has an overall MARD (Mean Absolute Relative Difference) rate of 8.2%, making it more accurate than the G6. The G7 is waterproof up to 2.4 meters, whereas the G6 is water-resistant up to the same depth, making it an ideal choice for athletes and swimmers. Users can wear the G7 sensor for up to 10 days just like the G6. However, G7 is not currently able to be integrated with insulin pumps, unlike the G6, which is compatible with a number of insulin pumps, pens, and apps.
The Dexcom Follow app, as the name suggests, is designed for caregivers and loved ones to remotely “follow” or monitor a person's glucose levels. It allows users to view and follow the glucose levels, trends, and data of their loved ones who are sharing data from their Dexcom CGM app. The Sharer (the person using the Dexcom CGM) sends an invitation to the follower, who can then monitor the Sharer's glucose activity at any time and receive glucose information of up to 10 different Sharers.
On the other hand, Dexcom Clarity is a diabetes management software that provides users with in-depth analysis of their glucose patterns, trends, and statistics. It allows users to identify problem areas, track patterns of highs and lows, and evaluate their glucose improvement over time. Dexcom Clarity is also designed for data sharing with healthcare professionals, enabling users to connect their Clarity data with their clinic for review anytime, even remotely. The latest updates to the Dexcom Clarity app offer increased flexibility and personalized options, such as specific glucose level ranges and 'Best Day' notifications, which notify users of their most "in range" day weekly. These updates aim to make life with diabetes a little bit easier by providing more tailored and encouraging support for users.
Overall, Dexcom's new apps and app updates are designed to provide individuals with diabetes, as well as their providers and caregivers, with the tools they need to manage the condition more effectively. By offering real-time glucose monitoring, data sharing, and personalized insights, Dexcom is at the forefront of empowering individuals to take control of their diabetes management.
