What is Literature?

Hello,

Here i am going to write about what is literature? according to me. In school I never thought about this that what is literature or didn’t even know that the stories I read is called literature. I used to say that Literature means “Mirror to the society.” Even when I had to write what is literature for the admission process at P.G level, I wrote the same definition. After studying two years at department my point of view about literature changed a lot.

Literature is like axe. Its hammering our mind. We can say that literature is an umbrella term. One major things i noticed is that words are more powerful. Literature is not east to define but we can feel it, understand it, express it through emotions.

Literature taught me to ask question and always doubt never rely on the think which you think it is true. Literature makes me aware that even your memories are not enough true to yourself. I red lot many books in this five year and every time when i read one book again, again i find something new and surprising. I also red many theories like deconstruction, structuralism, feminism, new literature etc. And it shows me that we have be with time one has to change than and then you will be with the main flow.

To interpret literature, we will have a better understanding of life. We Study literature to have the ability to consider situation set before us and we have variety of approaches to resolve it. Also it gives psychological reason that why people make the decision that they make. Hence, This can’t define literature as a whole. Then what literature is in real sense. Definition of literature may be different from person to person we cannot conclude it. In the rise of every possible definition of what is literature? It seems impossible to count everything that it covers, and play an important role in an individual’s life. One can influence by using literature or be influenced by it.

It allows people to learn about life .it is also teaches universal human experience . It is also allows us to know and learn rituals, beliefs, superstitions and culture of other religion and develop secular approach towards it, and also helps us to see the world people, place , things, events through different eyes by different viewpoint.

In short, i would say by my personal experience that Literature has power to make men creative or at least think something on that direction & such creativity leads to critical thinking that actually Literature conduct to serve.
