2018 Western Digital Summer Internship Call
Two graduate level summer internships are currently available at Western Digital Company (San Jose, CA) working with Dr. Derek Stewart and Dr. Zhaoqiang Bai on computational materials simulations relevant for non-volatile memory research focused on interfacial phase change materials and prediction of spin hall angles in materials with strong spin-orbit interactions. QUALIFICATIONS:
Current student pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry or Physics.
Background in magnetism and magnetic materials preferred for spin hall project
Knowledge of atomistic, ab-initio computational modeling techniques such as density functional theory. Experience with first principle codes including KKR-CPA approaches, VASP, Quantum Espresso, & Wannier90.
Experience with transport approaches (non-equilibrium Green’s function techniques, BoltzTrap) preferred for phase change project
Experience with other computational techniques, such as molecular dynamics, Monte Carlo, and/or finite element analysis, is a plus
Strong research skills
