On 9/8/25, Kelly Kellum, General Secretary of Friends United Meeting, shared the following update:
On Monday, 8 September 2025, after nearly three years of legal proceedings, the judge issued a ruling in the case of our Friend's graduate, Shadi Khoury.
This long ordeal began when Shadi was only a 11th grade student at Ramallah Friends School (RFS), and it has now stretched across nearly three years of his young life. Over this period, he endured arrest accompanied by torture, a full year of house arrest, and thirty-seven consecutive court sessions. Despite his steadfastness during interrogation and the faithful accompaniment of family and community, the outcome has been a conviction. Sentencing has been scheduled for 15 December 2025.
Shadi’s family expresses deep gratitude for the wave of prayer, support, and solidarity that Friends and many others around the world have shown during this long and painful journey. Their love and care continue to sustain Shadi and those closest to him.
There is now a pressing need for ongoing support, prayer, and advocacy as Shadi faces his sentencing in December. His family also wants the world to know that Shadi’s case is not unique, and that many Palestinian children and youth are detained in Israeli military prison.
As a global Quaker community, we continue to hold Shadi, his family, and all youth who are unjustly detained in the Light. We reaffirm our commitment to labor for a just world.
