In a majority of the designs of much industrial equipment, moving parts are generally connected mechanically to one another. But for a majority of torque-transfer applications, it is always an ideal condition if the two shafts do not meet physically. This proves to be specifically true in wet, high-pressure, or other rough working environments. Magnetic coupling usually provides an invaluable alternative since it transfers the torque through a magnetic field rather than physical contact.

The most widely used magnetic core material is divided in usually two parts. One of them is a ferromagnetic metal such as iron and the other one is a ferrimagnetic compound such as ferrites. The greater permeability to the surrounding air relatively generally causes the magnetic field lines to be reduced to the magnetic core itself.

For example, Ceramic ferrite magnets are usually made by mixing greater proportions of iron oxide blended with fewer proportions of one or more extra metallic elements like barium, manganese, nickel, and zinc.

Magnetic actuator generally uses magnetic effects to create such forces which affect the motion of some part in the actuator. They can easily provide vital advantages specifically in areas where people need to replace ingredients and systems at a dangerously high rate or shut down production lines for maintenance and reliability issues on regular basis.

Fixed gap magnetic couplings

There are a lot of advantages of using fixed gap magnetic couplings in comparison with the standard dry flexible metal shim pack couplings or lubricated gear-type couplings. These advantages are:

· These magnetic couplings never get exhausted such as flexible metal couplings like shim pack type so there is no low chance that they fail due to misalignment stresses. In addition to this, they cannot fail also due to lack of maintenance.

· Fixed gap magnetic couplings are not able to aggravate the shafts and usually cause shaft fatigue failures.

· No rigor alignment of a driver with laser is needed.

· It usually mitigates abrupt high torque start-up shock to pump mechanical seals as a matter of the fact that induction motors can generate twice the torque. This generally enables a smooth startup of pumps after torsional shock hence extending M-Seal life.

· While there is a minimum loss of energy due to the slip which usually occurs in some magnetic couplings.

· Usually no lubrication is needed and zero maintenance is required.

· In fixed gap magnetic coupling, no parts are subject to tiredness under normal installation
