This site is an information sharing site for the Dexter High School soccer program.
Tryouts:
Men's tryouts are during the summer BEFORE school starts. These are held on the first or second week of August depending on MHSAA guidelines each year.
Girls tryouts are usually in March - See the MHSAA website link at the bottom. Our tryouts are the first 3-4 days that the season starts.
Summer Camp:
Summer Camp is not mandatory, but it is a great chance for the kids to get to know the coaches and get fit. There is a cost associated with it which benefits the program.
Drop In Soccer:
Summer drop in before the HS season for the boys is run by the Team Captains.
Winter drop in futsal for the girls is run by the Team Captains and at an available Dexter gym.
General Dates:
Men's season runs from early August through the end of October.
Pre-Season overnight tournament when possible is usually a week or two after tryouts.
Women's season runs from the middle of March through the middle of June.
Pre-Season overnight tournament is usually a week or two after tryouts.
Off Season:
MHSAA rules prohibit Coaches from working with players out of season, but the Varsity Captains hold Summer or Winter drop-in sessions. These sessions are communicated by the Captains.
Out of Pocket Cost:
High School Soccer at Dexter is usually around $250 per player on top of Pay-to-play fees. Below is a list of expenses not covered by the school. If you are unable to pay these fee's or the pay-to-play fee please contact the Coach of your team so we can find scholarship money.
Socks and training shirts
Overnight tournament (hotel rooms, go-karting or team bonding, dinner)
Pre-game meals which are necessary and our biggest extra cost
What to expect:
Practice: Once the Season begins there is generally practice or a game every weekday with occasional practice or games on the weekends. Practice is at 3:15 at the HS Soccer fields so the players head right from school to practice. Practice generally ends by 4:45 to 5:00.
Games: South Eastern Conference games are "generally" 4pm (Junior Varsity) and 5:30pm (Varsity). If we have a third team those games are scheduled separately and they may be anywhere from 4pm to 7pm.
Uniforms:
The High School does not pay for our Uniforms. Due to the cost we try to stay on a three to four year cycle.
Fundraising:
All players are required to participate in fundraising efforts. Here is a list of past and future purchases through our fundraising.
Uniforms (bi-yearly)
Press Box
Goal Keeping sessions from professional keeper Coach
Assistant Coaches
Added technical sessions with Next Level Training or third party
Training equipment
Winter Coats
Sound system
Athletic Trainers and Injuries:
Injured players work with our athletic trainers. If a player needs to see a Doctor the Doctor and Parents must work with our Athletic Trainers to ensure that the Doctors, Trainers, and Coaches are all working together for the players health.
Communication:
Communication are done through TeamSnap, pre-season email lists, and via the team directly at practice. TeamSnap may not always get updated in a timely fashion. Text and direct communication at practice will always take precedence. https://www.teamsnap.com/ . The phone application is recommended and available in the app stores.
Volunteering is Required:
Each Players Family needs to work during a certain number of Home game days or be a food volunteer for the Teams. Positions include Concession Stand, Announcer, Score Board Operator, and Videographer. We use SignUpGenius to track these volunteer slots for each home game.
Game Day Meals - Run through school and can be ordered via Eleyo
Bus Volunteer - Meet at the bus pickup, ensure players are accounted for, and ride the bus back home with the team.
Scoreboard - The easiest job, scoreboard is very easy to operate. If the referee crosses their arms in an X then you pause the time. Other than that it is 35m JV halves, and 40m Varsity halves.
Announcer - We have an MHSAA approved script to read off. Announcer also plays the music from the playlist (ipad in press box).
Team Photographer's - Take pictures from sideline and share with team, every game is not a requirement and the job can be shared.
Ball Person - Varsity games by rule require ball people. If volunteers are not found it will be the responsibility of the JV players.
