Note: The call for papers for DevPEC 2025 has closed. Please check back in fall 2025 if you are interested in submitting your work for DevPEC 2026.
DevPEC 2025 Submission Deadline: February 11th, 2025 - 11:59pm PST
Application
The ideal candidate is a PhD candidate in Economics who primarily conducts applied research in development economics and political economy. Ph.D. students from related departments such as political science and business schools are also welcome.
You are asked to submit a working paper, which must be single-authored or co-authored with other students, by the submission deadline of February 11. Papers co-authored with faculty will be considered as long as it is clear that the primary author(s) is a PhD student.
The selection committee will consist of a panel of Berkeley and Stanford junior faculty and Ph.D. students. A decision will be made by March 5. You will then be required to confirm participation by March 15.
DevPEC is a two-day event featuring 8-10 presentations. Each presentation will be allocated a total of 35 minutes, followed by a 10-minute discussion led by another student. If selected to present, you may also be asked to be a discussant for one of the other selected papers and must attend the full event.
The application can be accessed at the following link. Strong preference will be given to Ph.D. students who are currently not on the job market.
Presenters from outside the Bay Area will receive funding to defray travel expenses (subject to a budgetary cap). Bay Area presenters do not qualify for travel support.
