When I try to log in and it asks for the code, it asks me "Need another way to confirm that it's you?" I click on that and the only option is the Code Generator from Facebook App on my phone, I don't have a phone that is logged in, and trying this from spoofing as mobile on my desktop doesn't receive a code. It also suggests Approve from another device, but my desktop PC doesn't receive any notifications that I'm trying to login, despite enabling everything in the settings.

About 2 weeks ago my account was hacked by someone, and they started using it to sell things and have made me the admin of sketchy pages. They changed the email and phone number associated with my account, and enabled two factor authentication under their phone number. I have been able to change the email back to mine, and have changed my password, but to fully access my account I need to enter a code from the Code Generator. The only way to access this code is either from in the account already, or from a third party app- which he hooked up to his phone number. There is literally no way for me to get this code, and I have no idea what to do. I have tried to contact Facebook 3 times through submitting forms and I have had no response. I am so frustrated with their lack of customer support. Any advice on how to get past the code generator or how to actually talk to someone live at facebook?

UPDATE 05/09/2022 So in the early part of April I was finally able to get the SMS code I needed and I was able to verify my account. If you read below you will know I never was able to receive my SMS code, no matter what phone number I tried. Other people could use my number to verify THEIR FB account but I couldn't. Made no sense. Well it gets even weirder. I have a friend who lives in another part of the world, she let me enter her international phone number and immediately she received the SMS code I desperately needed. I entered the code and was able to verify my account. After I did, FB asked me to upload a selfie (no idea why) then they wanted me to upload my driver's license. After that I was taken to an "appeal screen" which said it would take them a little over 1 day to review my account. Well it has been 30 days and still no review. When I try to log in I'm taken to that same "appeal screen" still telling me I'm waiting on a review.

Ill try to be as brief as possible. Please note, I am not a software technician but I do share my bed with a software "bug tester" and we both agree this is why I'm not receiving my 6 digit SMS code from FB.

This all came to light last week when my FB account was hacked. I have since gained some control but I still can't access my account. I did all the steps FB required for me to confirm my identity and ownership of my account. I was then able to remove the hackers email, replace it with mine and reset my password. At this point I go to log in w/ my new password. FB accepts my log in but them prompts me to provide my phone number so they can send me a 6-digit SMS code for verification. I never receive the code. I try this over and over and have since learned not to try too many times because they will lock me out for 24 hours. They give me no other option to bypass this verification.

I'm 100% positive on my account the reason I do not receive the SMS VERIFICATION CODE is because years ago I was so aggravated w/ all the stupid notifications FB was sending to my phone that I went into my FB account and turned off ALL FB SMS notifications. Take that FB i thought. A decision I now regret. Because of that Im unable to receive the code to verify my # and to give me full access again.

My bug tester and I decided to test this theory. We set up 4 FB accounts on different devices, laptop, desk top, tablet and cell phone. All w/ different email accounts. We then went into all 4 test accounts and turned off ALL SMS notifications. We then proceeded to lock ourselfs out of the accounts. On all 4 accounts we were able to reset the passwords and were prompted to verify a phone number. On 2 accounts we entered my number and on the other 2 we used another number. NONE of the 4 test accounts have received the 6-digit SMS VERIFICATION CODE or any code from FB.

But we werent done. 4 family members offered to help us test this theory. All 4 confirmed in their own FB settings that SMS notifications were turned ON. Then they purposely locked themselves out of their accounts and proceeded w/ a password reset. When prompted to add phone number to receive SMS code to verify they all used my telephone number. Immediately, all 4 accounts received the SMS code and proceeded to gain access back to their accounts.

Although as users we have the ability to turn off SMS notifications FB SHOULD NEVER of allowed it to include system account or security notifications. My bug tester says that the software company he tests for also has SMS notifications and users can turn them off but it doesn't inlude turning off system or security notifications.

If this is the first time you're setting up the Authenticator app, you might receive a prompt asking whether to allow the app to access your camera (iOS) or to allow the app to take pictures and record video (Android). Allow the app to use the camera so that you can take a picture of a QR code in one step. If you don't allow the camera, you can still add the code manually as described in Manually add an account to the app.

Review the Accounts page of the Authenticator app on your device, to make sure your account information is right and that there's an associated verification code. For additional security, the verification code changes every 30 seconds preventing someone from using a code multiple times.

Save your recovery codes so you can get back into your account if you lose access, and then select Next. You can save your codes by downloading them to your device, by printing a hard copy, or by copying them into a password manager tool.

Open the Authenticator app, select Add account from the Customize and control icon in the upper right, select Other account (Google, Facebook, etc.), and then select enter this text code from the text at the top of the page.

The Accounts page of the app shows you your account name and a verification code. For additional security, the verification code changes every 30 seconds preventing someone from using a code multiple times.

On the Add a backup verification method page on your computer, type the verification code provided by your backup verification method for your Amazon account, and then select Verify code and continue.

Second, they activated two-factor authentication. This is supposed to increase the security of a system because you need to enter a code in addition to your password. The problem occurs when, again, it points away from the account owner and to the hackers instead.

I was just wondering if you ever got a reply from facebook/ managed to get back in? Like you, I have about a decade of photos on there, and also just feel really uncomfortable that a hacker still has access to my account!

Hi there! The same thing happened to me and I am STRUGGLING. I run multiple facebook accounts for my clients through my personal account and am at a complete loss. If you have found a solution, please do share!

Hi Elaine,

Did you have any updated tips or info on how to get your account back the fastest based on this problem? Currently experiencing the same issue with them changing the Code generator app and me not being able to get the code. Trying to reach FB to get them to remove the 2FA req. but no luck yet.

Hey Elaine!

Same happened to me about 3 weeks ago! Even though I was able to send my ID and for Facebook to recognized it (also I was able to change the email as the hacker has changed to one of his own) FB did contact me via email, send me a code but this code never worked :(. I regained my password but as the 2F Authenticator was enable by the hacker, I guess they are still getting this second code that I need to log in into my account. I wonder if FB would ever respond my email (as they where the ones initiating the communication) on this email it said: If you have any questions please respond on this email..

I have been off facebook since June 2022 and I finally changed the email and password to the account In July but now this 2FA is turned on I need it to be turned off so I can enter my new phone number!

Hi, which way did you submit your ID etc? As in, which form?

My account was hacked and 2-factor authentication was enabled so I cannot receive any codes to log into my account on any of my devices

They changed the email and phone number associated with my account, and enabled two factor authentication under their phone number.

I have been able to change the email back to mine, and have changed my password, but to fully access my account I need to enter a code from the Code Generator.

The only way to access this code is either from in the account already, or from a third party app- which they hooked up to their phone number.

There is literally no way for me to get this code to re-enter my account, and I have no idea what to do.

I have tried to contact Facebook many times through emails and submitting forms and I have had no response.
