Weighted population densities for US Counties
Link to csv: county_weighted_density.csv. The file contains the population-weighted density of each county (or county equivalent, such as a Borough [alaska], a Parish [louisiana], an Independent City [virginia], or a Municipio [Puerto Rico]) in the US and Puerto Rico. The weighted densities (wtd_den) were constructed from the Census Tract level by multiplying tract-level density by population, summing over all tracts in a county, and dividing by the total county population. The unweighted densities (pop_den) are simply the total population in the county over the total area. The tract data comes from the 2012-2016 American Community Survey, as downloaded from www.socialexplorer.com. FIPS is the Federal Information Processing Standard code for each county (first two digits are the state; next three are the county).
