The rapid increase in urbanization and industrialization has led to exponential increase in Solid Waste Generation. The developing countries have failed to manage their Municipal Solid Wate (MSW) at urban residences. Therefore, it is essential frame better SWM policies and regulatory acts to overcome this emerging issues. At the same time, it is also essential to transform the existing technology for collection, transportation, treatment and disposal of MSW. My present study deals with technology development and prototype designing for efficient collection of kerbside littered MSW. It has been reported that >10% of discarded MSW from residential and commercial premises are left out openly dumped across the kerbside in urban areas. The existing collection and transportation (C&T) methods such as door-to-door method have failed to meet the essential requirements for monitoring and segregation of MSW. The developed prototype can be a resourceful technology for efficient collection and transportation of MSW in developing country like India. This might help in overall cost reduction required in managing MSW, better treatment and disposal facilities. In terms of future prospect, it is essential to switch the existing outdated technologies with indigenous technology; special designed as per countries geographical stretch, MSW characteristics and climatic conditions.
