Registration:
Teachers, to register your class for the in-person event, please contact Sophia Clark (sclark45@uco.edu) with your: name, school & city, estimated number of in-person student participants (rough ages & German levels), and transportation info. All details can be updated as event nears.
Registration for online contest submissions is not necessary.
There is no registration fee for online participation.
Student fee:
$7 event fee per student. (Fee waivers available! Please let Sophia Clark know if your students need a fee waiver.)
Teachers please collect cash from students to pay Angie Novak on site via cash, check (to: OK-AATG), or Venmo. You can also send your student fees to Angie Novak via mail.
Event fee covers all supplies and a fresh-griddled lunch on site: hot dog (vegetarian available), chips, cookie, and drink.

In-person contests and activities will take place on Friday, March 29, 2024 in the College of Liberal Arts Building at UCO in Edmond.
All online submissions are due by Friday, March 29.

Group KAHOOT! Trivia Contest [in-person only]
All in-person participants will go head-to-head in this fun, KAHOOT! contest after lunch!

Schnitzeljagd [in-person only]
All in-person student participants will receive a Schnitzeljagd booklet that contains language quests, fun tasks in German, visiting college tables, and a record of their event entries.

Poetry recital contest (judged according to language level) [in-person only]
Students should choose from the list linked here. Memorization is encouraged and is a scoring category, but it is not required to participate.
Category A: Short poems
Category B: Middle-length Poems
Category C: Long poems
Vocab challenge competition (judged according to language level) [in-person only]
Competitors will have 5 minutes to answer as many written vocab questions as they can (English --> German, German --> English) on a given topic. Correct capitalization, spelling, and gender count. The topics are listed below. There will be multiple rounds. Students can participate in as many rounds as they wish. Click on categories for last year's sheets to use as a study resource. The 2024 sheets will mix up the order, swap out some words, and add new vocab!

Baking contest (no refrigeration available) [in-person only]
Do not bring anything that will melt or go bad quickly. The baked goods must be easily transportable. Contestants must take their dishes home with them, or bring their baked goods in disposable containers. Required label: name of student, school, teacher, name of recipe.

Art show competition (Theme: Auf ins Abenteuer! Auf ins Sprachabenteuer!)
All artworks will be displayed in a classroom gallery. Please submit artwork at registration. Artworks should have to do with German language or cultures. Inappropriate artworks (condoning violence, etc.) will be disqualified.

NEW EVENT: Draw what you hear! challenge
Participants will listen to a recording 3x on a particular topic and draw what they hear on paper. Only good at stick figures? No problem! You can label your drawing. The drawing with the best accuracy and most details wins. Paper, pens, and color markers provided.
Familienstammbaum (recording will describe a family tree; beginner/easy)
Mein Haus (recording will describe the exterior of a house, floors, the yard, etc.; intermediate)
Mein Zimmer (recording will describe a messy and unusual room; intermediate)
Die Chimäre (recording will describe a fantasy monster; advanced/hard mode)
NEW EVENT: Jeoparty! partner or group challenge
Groups ranging from 2 to 5 participants will work together to answer spelling, number, vocab, grammar, or wild-card questions and rack up euros in this quick Jeopardy-style game. There are two different contests, one for language beginners and one for more advanced, grammar-savvy competitors.
Contest 1: Deutsch für Anfänger - Buchstabieren, Zahlen, Familienstammbaum, Farben, Kleidung & Wetter (Was trägt Anja heute?), ???
Contest 2: Schwerpunkt Grammatik - Buchstabieren, Zahlen, Verbkonjugation (Präsens), Partizipien, Adjektivendungen, ???
Music performance contest [in person & online]
All songs must be in German or be written by a German-language composer. A piano and music stands will be provided at the venue. If you have a background track, you must bring your own speaker or coordinate with the event organizers beforehand. Click here for the in-person entry form! Due Monday, March 25th!
