I moved from Germany back home to Australia in February 2019 and I didn't notify my bank. Problem is, although I managed to hold on to almost all of my bank documents, I lost the photoTAN piece of paper that I got when I first opened the account.

Hi all, didn't see this covered in reviewing past posts, so wanted to ask here. We have recently moved to Germany and have a new account with Deutsche Bank. We have a Deutsche Bank Card Plus which is the debit card with a credit card number so we can use it with other services outside of Germany. The problem is, it does not seem to work in many cases. It seems as though if I am making the purchase immediately, like at the cashier, it works. But if I need to put it into something like Amazon, Apple, Tier (scooter rental), etc where the card would be charged later, it will have me authorize with the TAN, and then will fail when it tries to charge anything. I went to the bank and they said the card is active so they could not do anything, so I am not sure what to do.

Update: Thanks for all the info everyone. So it appears that this is really just case of the card not being a credit card, which I knew, but didn't realize other places really cared about that. If you look on Amazon for example, it specifically says that some vendors require a credit card. So the card will work for some purchases, but not others. PayPal (connected to the German bank account) has worked in a number of instances, but some places just require an actual credit card.

Description

The photoTAN reader is used to create an individual transaction number (TAN) and can only be used in Deutsche Bank's online banking. The photoTAN reader can be used to authorize all TAN-requiring transactions in Deutsche Bank online banking. The photoTAN graphic, a square image with colored dots, is displayed in online banking for approval. By scanning this graphic, the order data and the TAN required for the process are generated on the display of the photoTAN reader. After checking the order data, the TAN can be entered in online banking to authorize the transaction.

AUTHORIZE TRANSACTIONS FAST AND SECURELY

With the photoTAN app, you are able to easily and securely authorize important transactions in the online and mobile banking.

PHOTOTAN PUSH APPROVAL

You are required to enter your account number, your PIN as well as a TAN during online banking login. If you are using the photoTAN app with the new push functionality ,you do not have to scan a graphic during login. Instead you will receive a push notification. If you tap on the notification, the photoTAN app will open, you can log in (using a PIN or Fingerprint login), approve the login and are then directly logged into your online banking.

You can also approve your online card payments with your Deutsche Bank Visa and Mastercard (debit and credit card) simply by clicking on the push notification, logging in to your photoTAN app and approving the transaction.

SECURITY

The photoTAN app has a PIN protection. For a smooth and fast login you are able to use Fingerprint Login.

Transactions in your online and mobile banking that are performed with the photoTAN app are secured with the security guarantee of Deutsche Bank.

I would also be very interested if this works with any photoTAN app. I tested Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank and comdirect Bank and although all apps seem to run, neither can detect photoTANs successfully on Sailfish X 3.0.1.11 (Xperia X).

DAB Bank and Consorsbank (BNP Paribas subsidiaries in Germany) are publishing their new "SecurePlus" apps on September 9th '19, unfortunately they will require at least Android 5.0, so any Sailfish device without the 8.1 layer won't be able to execute them (besides further "rooted" or processor incompatibilities).

Hi there, are the (most probably) non-official Banking-Apps from Aptoide (e.g. Commerzbank and DKB) really trustable? Up to now I refused to download them because of being afraid of installing a skimming App or a kind of scam?

Until now I refuse to do online banking on a phone, but if you're looking for a banking app, maybe native SFOS app "Zaster Banker could help - although I did not try it out yet. But if you don't trust aptoide, maybe get yalp store...?

On my JP1 - but still SFOS V 2.1.4.14 - the PhotoTAN app of Norisbank works without any problems. And afaik it always did since SFOS V1. I did not update to V3 yet and if this app won't work I probably will not try soon...

@cg thanks in advance. You don't need an account. You just need to try scanning a photoTAN (one of your bank should work), that works without an account right away. What works for me: Installing and starting the app, touching buttons. I also see the camera live view and it focusses on the code. It just doesn't recognize the code as such and I get a timeout message of the live view after some seconds.

Now luckily Raiffeisen has since started to support a dedicated photoTAN device.(So this solved my Xperia X problems until I replaced it with an XA2 because of other banks) Might work for other with the same problem.

A photoTAN is a key and fingerprint-based transaction authorization method for online and mobile banking with Deutsche Bank. This method is used to authorize online and mobile transactions. A key benefit of the photoTAN app is that you do not need to remember your username and password for your Deutsche Bank account. This makes the login process much easier and faster. In addition, you can use the photoTAN app to approve transactions on your Deutsche Bank account or credit card. 2351a5e196
