Started in 2016, the annual Opioid Use & Substance Use Disorder Summit is hosted by the Greater Detroit Area Health Council (GDAHC) in partnership with the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN). Each year the summit serves as a place for the diverse organizations and individuals that work to solve the opioid and substance use epidemic in our region - and nationally - to come together to share new information, resources, and best practices.
As substance use continues to affect family, friends, youth, and co-workers, Detroit and the surrounding communities strive to cultivate innovative and equitable solutions to this continuing crisis. Summit attendees can expect to hear from content experts, government officials, drug treatment providers, medical professionals, law enforcement, persons with lived experiences, and many, many more.
Last year, over 500 registered guests and 50 sponsors and vendors attended the summit, demonstrating the surrounding community’s passion in the fight against this epidemic, the drive for new information, and the desire for solutions. Moving to a new virtual platform, which will take place over two half days, this year’s attendees will have the opportunity to learn how our communities have adapted during the COVID-19 pandemic, and discuss new methods of accessing treatment and harm reduction.
