After our work at the high school we worked at an old school building that housed dozens of nonprofit offices. One of the nonprofits that we worked with closely was the organization BLANK. Through this after school program we were able to hang out with elementary and middle school aged students. We were able to help these students with their homework and played games that got them moving around and having fun.
We were able to interact with the founder of Lawn Academy and learn about the mission and reason for his organization. The Lawn Academy is an after school mentorship organization that provides Detroit students with the experience and connections in order to be successful after their graduation from high school. Lawn Academy allows the students to spend time in their space after school and complete their homework, while in the summer they earn hands on skills by aiding retirees, veterans and others with the services of lawn care and snow removal.
