Themed around an exclusive VIP party on an upper level of the ship, the VIP Escape Plunge is Disney's highly immersive answer to the "drop floor" body slide. Two towers eight slides each will make up this massive slide complex. Because of the vertical nature of the slides and the intentionally claustrophobic pre-show, the tower won't take up that much of a footprint. Rising eight stories and obscured by go away green, it will be the high point of the park but given the slides wrapping around themselves will still be entirely contained.
The VIP Escape Plunge will use a reservation system for initial access to the set up VIP lounge. This will include access to a queue of grungy hallways and switchbacks with a maximum 45 minute wait time, followed by a themed elevator lift that showcases up rising into the upper levels of the ship in a grand fashion through a mix of a room-wrap screen and dramatic shadow lighting. Guests will be let into the VIP area once the show scene for the previous group has been cleared. Multiple elevators will be used to keep capacity flowing on both towers, and loaded on multiple levels in a Tower of Terror style set up.
Once inside the VIP lounge, the room will fill to capacity with a few dozen people as an even bigger scale version of the wrap around space window from the elevator encircles the room as an awe inspiring view out into space. This serene observation deck quickly gets into panic mode as we see several baby Xenomorphs begin to crawl on the window. An emergency evacuation process is then initiated involving a tense but organized grouping of people into escape hatches, which naturally transition into the drop floor slide.
The actual slide section is short for the genre, but makes up for it in breathtaking twists and the projection-mapped plunge from the upper levels of the ship to the grungy hallways of the queue, letting out into a water run-off next to a large pool of switch backs which both builds anticipation of the experience for those standing in line as well as offering a stark contrast for those who were just moments ago sitting in the lap of luxury, miles above the stars.
A terrifying twist on the traditional "family" raft ride, the longest slide in the park sees guests coming face to face with the queen Xenomorph in a send up to Alien Encounter and a chase you won't soon forget. Set in an incredibly artificial "white water rapids" simulated section of the ship, much like the VIP Plunge this slide shows what can happen when the lap of luxury comes face to face with the alien creatures hiding just under the surface of this seemingly idyllic corporate retreat.
Rafts will be loaded at the top of a station which gradually sits about four stories above the rest of the park through a slightly elevated sloped queue Beginning with a short fake rapids section, things soon take a turn for the worst as the alien queen invades via a shadow effect and plunges the rafts into darkness.
From here on out it's a race for your life as the slide uses the traditional banked turns of the large slides the eight person rafts travel down to its advantage. Throughout the course you'll be hit with a number of different jump scares of simple Alien creatures of different kinds with basic animations and amplified by strobe lighting. The catch is that every time you go down the slide, the jump scares might pop up in different places.
The only way to really anticipate the jump scares is to know that the timing of them always happens in the dramatic banked turns as they leer over the sides of the slide in a disorienting fashion. At the climax of the ride guests go through a large "whirlpool" element with a huge alien queen AA in the center of the room before finally dropping down one last swooping drop. From top to bottom this is not a very tall slide, relying much more on an elongated course filled with swooping turns and terrain hugging dips.
The Luna Pool is a large moon-shaped pool with "stellar" theming such as crescent and star-shaped kiddie pools and a wave generator "shooting" out of a rocket ship in the center of the pool atop a large rock.
The Earth Pool is the other main pool, more quiet and lush than the more adventurous main Luna pool. Verdant greens and blues surround the more tranquil waters, focusing on atmosphere over energy but still with elements of industrial design around the backstage areas.
The "Shaft" is the nickname for the lazy river, which is made using a reclaimed mining area turned recreational attraction. In it, guests ride through a derelict system of caves and equipment, including power loaders, hatched Xenomorph eggs, drills, and android parts, with dripping stalactites and waterfalls adding a chance to cool off.
The Jetstream is the more "rapids" style river, similar to Volcano Bay's Te-Awa. Though still a lazy river, the focus is on faster more intense waters and a tour of Weyland-Yutani's hangars and still in-motion labs, giving attentive guests a focus on the story of the park, like their attempts to gain Xenomorph DNA.
The Digsite is the name for the splash zone for younger guests, taking advantage of reclaimed mining equipment to have a zero-entry splash zone complete with pails, sandy bottoms, and cool stone benches for parents, all made "Alien" by the use of zeerust theming elements.
