Finding A Need and Filling It
Finding A Need and Filling It
I spent the day volunteering with CRR in Athens so I could get a glimpse of the work around Athens. When they arrived in Athens several years ago, they decided to spend time seeing what work was already being done so they could best understand what gap they could fill. They have found themselves filling a quite necessary niche of providing other NGOs with various supplies of food, clothing, hygiene products etc.
Their goods are donated and stored in a warehouse from which they frequently load a van full of supplies and drive a jagged route around Athens, delivering supplies to an array of NGOs. After our first delivery, our next stop was to drop off 2 CRR volunteers to help in a kitchen for the day. CRR not only provides other NGOs with supplies, but also with supplemental volunteers! Around mid-day, our van was emptied, which was perfect timing–our next task was to use the CRR van to help a young Somali guy move new beds into an apartment across town. This organization seeks to provide temporary housing for young single men, while they journey with them in setting goals for establishing a life in a new country. It was a truly inspiring day to see the heart of the Father for the sojourner, being made known through His people caring for other people! How is the Father calling you to care for the sojourner?
