Micro-credential is a type of competency-based education that is designed to enable any individual to earn recognition for skills and competencies they have learned throughout their careers and their lives.
A comprehensive micro-credential programme will support individual lifelong learner, educators and workforce in any organisation or industry in acquiring desired competencies aligned to their own needs and priorities. It is designed in such a way to make learning and training very flexible, manageable, convenient and most importantly very affordable.
The process of learning through short, digestible and well-planned units formed the basis of a micro-credential or digital badge. Micro-credential approach is based on microlearning principles.
Micro-credential can be designed as an innovative stackable digital credentialing that would enable education and training providers to offer flexible learning pathway for traditional and non-traditional students. Realising the huge potential of micro-credential as an enabler to support flexible learning, Malaysia Qualification Agency (MQA) has taken the initiative to produce the guideline for its implementation.
