Call For Participation

We hope to bring together HCI researchers and designers interested in explorations of designing with friction in their research practice and invite anyone interested in this topic to submit a short positioning paper and contribution to our exhibition space.

Please submit an extended abstract as a positioning piece based on the theme of design friction. We ask that submissions capture explorations of designing with friction or reflections on how frictions have unfolded in practice. Using process diagrams, sketches, schematics and so on would be greatly appreciated. For research that is still ongoing, it’s fine to report on initial findings or say when you expect to be able to report on them. The submission should be in ACM format, up to 1200 words (including references). It may include up to 6 images and references where necessary, we also invite you to use the format creatively.
(Optional) You can also provide details of a related/relevant contribution to an exhibition as part of the workshop, describing sketches or artefacts you will bring to Uppsala to communicate your ideas and work. As this should be interconnected with your extended abstract, we will seek a short description (100 words max.) of what you intend to bring along.

The workshop will be an in-person event, requiring participants to join us at the conference site in Uppsala, Sweden.
