Since the construction and renovations of MiraCosta Community College Oceanside campus began in 2022, the Design Department’s previous Lounge & Display project was dismantled, leaving the department without a visible presence for the public. With the approval of the college, we’ve been given permission to design and construct a new sustainable lounge desk to represent what the Design Department is capable of while providing an oasis for students.
This will be a wonderful place for students to study, socialize, and promote the Design department at MiraCosta College. The sustainable patio area will also embody an inviting atmosphere, featuring:
Solar-powered charging station
20+ lounge able seating options
string lighting for nighttime ambiance
ADA accessibility
Use of recycled wood
Planted with California native pollinators
Students at MiraCosta are currently in the foundational stages of the deck build. They're hard at work laying the groundwork, including the skeleton of the foundation and assembling parts of the furniture such as tables and seating.

The Design program offers courses in architecture, drafting, and engineering for students who wish to transfer to a four-year institution or gain employment in the fields of architectural design, computer aided design, mechanical design, and engineering design. The program also offers courses for those who may not be pursuing a career in design but who have an interest in or need to understand graphic communication. The engineering course work includes engineering design graphics courses for students majoring in aerospace, civil, environmental, industrial, mechanical, and structural engineering. The architectural course work gives students a working knowledge of the practices and technical aspects of architectural design and drawing.
