Motor Drive Systems: Design, Control, and Power Electronics

We study electric machine design, control, and power electronics for motor drive systems. Building on this foundation, we are developing prognostics and health management (PHM) methods, with robotic actuation as a key application.

Our foundation: electric machine design, power conversion, self-sensing control, and state estimation.

Diagnostics and Prognostics
Our developing direction: fault diagnosis, degradation modeling, and remaining useful life estimation.

Robotic Actuation
Our application: motor drive systems and actuator health in mobile robots and robotic manipulators.

Explore our research

Industry Collaboration

Since 2022, we have undertaken 35 capstone and research projects, most in collaboration with industry partners.

Define and design. Identify practical needs through field visits and requirements analysis, then develop designs using simulation and CAD.

Build and control. Combine rapid prototyping, physics-based modeling, signal analysis, and real-time control.

Test and evaluate. Assess performance through laboratory and field testing, alongside cost and market feasibility.
