Thank you for visiting my personal website!

I am Giacomo De Santis, originally from Rome, Italy, and currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Milan (Università degli Studi di Milano), in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (DiSFarm). I work with Professor Andrea Marcellusi within the Health Economics and Technology Assessment (HETA) Lab, where my research focuses on health economics, health technology assessment, and applied quantitative methods.

I hold a PhD in Economics from the University of Essex and a Master’s Degree in Health Economics from Sapienza University of Rome. I began my PhD in October 2023, with a research project focusing on pregnancy, early childhood, and socioeconomic inequalities in health. My doctoral research was conducted under the supervision of Professor Michaela Benzeval and Dr Edith Aguirre and was supported by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) through the South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS).

During my PhD, I was part of the Understanding Society team at the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER), University of Essex, working extensively with data from Understanding Society, the UK Household Longitudinal Study (UKHLS). Since January 2025, I have also contributed to the Understanding Society Family Team as a Research Assistant. This work focuses on improving the quality of family-related data within the survey and enhancing its value and accessibility for researchers, supporting wider use of the rich information on families and household dynamics available in UKHLS.

My current research interests focus on health economics, health technology assessment, pharmaceutical economics, and the use of real-world evidence to support healthcare decision-making. I am particularly interested in the application of quantitative methods to health and pharmaceutical research, including the analysis of observational and administrative data, economic evaluation, and the assessment of healthcare technologies and pharmaceutical interventions.
