K-4 FIELD DAY VOLUNTEER SIGN UP OPENS MAY 1 @ 9AM & 8PM!
The DES PTO is a collaboration of families and educators who strive to create relationships between home, school and the community
to support and cooperate in the education of the children of Derynoski Elementary School.
The DES PTO holds and supports various events throughout a typical school year that help our families connect with our school community and bolster the education of the Derynoski students.
We support these objectives through various fundraising efforts that include membership dues, appeal drives, book fairs and assorted fundraising initiatives that provide opportunities for all members of the PTO to contribute in a manner that is best for them and their families.
While neither all encompassing or limiting we aim to do such things as:
Supplement learning resources through the sponsorship of classroom technology, furniture, books, planners, indoor recess materials, and sensory hallways.
Support education beyond homeroom-learning through the sponsorship of art, music, band, media center, PE classes, supportive services and recess supplies.
Enrich curricular offerings by supporting in-school initiatives such as field trips, cultural events, special reader days, popsicles on hot days, the holiday bazaar, school store, and courtyard maintenance.
Drive a sense of student pride through selling spirit wear, creating a yearbook, supporting special grade-specific activities and operating extracurricular activities such as running club and drama club.
Provide families and children opportunities to make community connections by sharing communications and hosting social events such as movie nights, pasta suppers, bingo nights, trivia nights, playground socials and “boo hoo” breakfasts.
Provide assistance to DES families and children in need so they can enjoy the full range of their elementary experience.
Support the broader community through events such as high school scholarships, Apple Harvest activities, local farm connections and Southington Educational Foundation initiatives.
Demonstrate our sincere appreciation for the staff of Derynoski Elementary School.
At the heart of PTO fundraising is the desire to support and enhance the educational experience of every student in our community. We strive for a robust fundraising program that maximizes community engagement while providing essential support for school programs. Our fundraising efforts work to reflect our belief in fostering an inclusive environment where every contribution—big or small—matters and helps create meaningful opportunities for students. We hope these efforts not only generate the much-needed funds, but also strengthen the bond between families, businesses and the school community.
Our fundraising is composed to three major categories:
1. A premier fundraiser such as a Read-a-Thon or Run-a-Thon – Our favorite fundraisers that not only encourage students to engage in healthy, educational activities, they also provide the majority of our funds that allow us to provide key activities for the school.
2. Smaller fundraisers that appeal to a wide range of supporters - These fundraisers are generally low-effort and will provide a good or service to our community. Examples include mums & pumpkins, pies, chocolates, and butter braids.
3. Passive fundraisers & events – Fundraisers that provide a portion of all sales back to the PTO. These require little (submit a receipt, enter a code) or no effort. Examples include Box Tops, Spirit wear, XL Center, and restaurant spirit nights
