DAWG Bookshop is Relocating!
DAWG Bookshop is Relocating!
Our beloved DAWG Bookshop is on the move! Because of this, we’ll be closed until 18 April while we relocate to our new space.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to Brett Perkins for generously providing us with a new home, and to Elsia Archer, a long-standing supporter and member of DAWG, for helping secure the space — we truly appreciate your ongoing support
We’ll be holding a busy bee on Saturday 11 April, and would love some extra hands! If you’re able to help with packing or moving (especially if you have boxes, trailers, or utes), it would mean so much to us
This next chapter is an exciting one, and we can’t wait to welcome you all into our new location soon! Stay tuned for updates and reopening details
Not every animal who comes to DAWG has had a gentle start in life, Infact a large majority come from a traumatic background. These puppies and kittens didn’t ask for this life – but it’s the only one they’ve known.
This is Angel. She was one of the unfortunate ones who has had a rough start to life. When she first came into DAWG care, she was painfully emaciated, covered in brutal skin lesions, battling a massive chest infection, and her whole body was sore and sick - she was basically a bag of bones on the edge of death. Yet, she fought her hardest every single day, to look around, to take part in the world. Her eyes were sad and hesitant, but she still wagged her tail in greeting with the simple hope that you will be someone who will show her some kindness.
This is the reality behind so many of the sweet faces you see on our page. The hard work of our volunteers and the kindness of our supporters are what stand between animals like Angel and the alternative.
Your donations help us pay for the vet visits, medications, food, and the time and love it takes to rebuild broken bodies and broken trust.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more of these stories with you – not to shock you, but to show you exactly what you’re helping us do. When you donate, foster, share a post, or adopt, you are changing the ending for animals who never got a choice in how their story began. You CAN make a difference and change a life.
June 2025
We’re thrilled to share some wonderful news from Derby Animal Welfare Group (DAWG)! In a fantastic show of teamwork, DAWG is partnering with Cat Haven—WA’s largest cat shelter—to give six precious kittens the best possible chance at finding loving forever homes in Perth.
These kittens come from two very different, but equally touching, beginnings:
Litter 1: Three ginger kittens were bravely rescued from the Derby Prison grounds, where they were found fending for themselves.
Litter 2: Four kittens and their devoted mother were left behind by their previous owner. Thanks to the quick response of our volunteers, all were brought to safety and given the care they desperately needed.
After lots of TLC, vet checks, and socialisation, these kittens are now ready for the next step of their journey. While their mother will remain in Derby until she is adopted, six of the kittens will travel to Cat Haven in Perth - a shelter renowned for its commitment to finding every cat a loving home - On Monday morning!
This partnership means these little ones will have a much greater chance of adoption, with access to Cat Haven’s extensive network of adopters and supporters across the Perth metro area. It’s a shining example of what we can achieve when animal welfare groups work together for the animals who need us most.
Getting these kittens to Perth hasn’t been easy. DAWG’s volunteers have been hard at work fundraising to cover the costs of transport, vet care, and supplies—every raffle ticket, donation, and word of encouragement from our community has made a difference. We’re so grateful for your support!
